Like incredibly computationally expensive volumetric lighting and broken billboards is meant to be a joke, right? But I think people just think some subset of 'itch.io games' are like that now lol
It's funny that people now sometimes read the Pagan games as like retro-facsimile HPSX stuff (which literally didn't exist when I was making the first two). A lot of aggressive anachronism is there for the alienation effect but I think it comes across unintentional now. It's interesting!

Easiest to think of linux as a single 'thing' and all the distributions as 'starter sets' of software with associated community processes. Pick the 'ecosystem' you'll have to fight against the least; like e.g. I installed debian stable minimal because I hate patching and prefer to use a bespoke DE.
