I think drawing exclusively traditionally for the last half year (whoa, time flies) has helped reset my digi-art brain. I feel like I became too reliant on infinite "ctrl+z"s, zooming, transforming, etc., and it was hurting my process overall. Hopefully the lessons I've learned stick once I go back.
Fun fact: I've got a website now! It's bare-bones right now, but I have PLANS. I'll be posting the rest of this series + any other future finished pieces there (and here too). I've even added an RSS feed if you're into that kind of thing!

I have lots of unpolished thoughts, RE: community building, but I'd hazard a guess that communities only succeed when there's a healthy mix of give and take: if each person simply posts their own creations expecting external feedback but never supports other people, then the community will wither.
I get sad when people in creator communities reserve their reacts/comments for the crème de la crème.
Like, c'monnn: it costs nothing to encourage others! Even if their art/writing/game/whatever isn't technically impressive! Even if it's amateurish!

Progress really is unpredictable: today I made headway on multiple designs that've had me stumped for WEEKS.
The original sketch of the woman, done in mechanical pencil.
The next step in process, wherein the lines have been inked in pen and any graphite has been erased.
The next step in the process, wherein certain lines have increased weight and any solid blacks have been filled.
The final drawing of the woman without any post-processing, which now has hatching in ink (for shadows and textures of the clothing) and smooth graphite patches (for shading on the skin).

I've been experimenting with traditional inking as of late, and: 1. inking is SO COOL, but 2. inking is SO HARD, especially 3. when you make your original sketch wayyy too small.
I've been getting really into traditional art techniques as of late, especially trying to bridge them with my digital techniques, and it's all such a blast!!
Relatedly, I just got a bunch of new drawing utensils, which means concocting ALL THE EXPERIMENTS.
my art brain has grown increasingly melty over these last few weeks as i chip chip chip away at one specific character's design.
like, how have none of these designs felt remotely correct??? it's a statistical wonder!
