After 5 years of construction, the Monon Corridor is expected to open in just a few short weeks as final testing along the line nears completion!

The line is reactivating part of the abandoned Monon Railroad, which had since been repurposed as a walking/biking trail. With enough space along the reactivated corridor to accommodate both, the trail was repaved adjacent to the alignment and new bridges and underpasses were constructed.

The Monon Corridor, also known as the West Lake Corridor, is an extension of Northern Indianaβs electrified commuter rail to the town of Munster in Lake County.

Reactivating the Georgetown Branch for rails alongside an existing trail was not easy. Despite numerous setbacks and delays, the Puple Line is on track to finally open in late 2027!

Between Bethesda and Silver Spring, the line uses the Georgetown Branch, a former freight right-of-way turned trail, creating a new mixed-used transportation corridor.
