I think the inconsistency is part of the program. The principles (imho) the current admin gets from leadership is 1) never admit mistakes 2) keep 'opposition' randomized 3) focus on $Base support in media. 4) transactional in all areas. 5) alignment as a requirement.

I was thinking the same this felt like 1984 - thanks for pulling the image.

I get that but, what's the reason for the inconsistency - why push increased regulation by the fcc, exercise in the military, gov led drug marketplace and at the same time, deregulation of cyber security, FDA, increase in other areas - just to create turmoil to distract form the true intent?

The dismantling of CISA by the current administration made no sense to me at all - I don't see how this fit into their principles or values. I'd hold all organizations (public and private) accountable for good cyber security practices similar to financial.

Favorite line from the article "The percentage of adults who view him very favorably is on par with the share who believe the Earth is flat or that aliens live among us.". I would be surprised if anyone doesn't understand that advertising works on engagement.

DNA Storage - Microsoft Research The DNA Storage project enables molecular-level data storage into DNA molecules by leveraging biotechnology advances to develop archival storage.

Hey Phil, good to see you comment on this. Here's another project - www.microsoft.com/en-us/resear...

The article had some good engineering learnings. The range-impact per decision is good to focus the team on always thinking about the impact of a design choice to increase range without having to add battery.

I think colbert said that pic was from a search for "not talarico" to comply.

Didn't hear about this one before. I know where I work (and have worked) privacy is taken very seriously and, considered to go hand-in-hand with security. Bandu clearly rolled out a very visible feature with a lack of both.

Humans are very tribal. Try to find groups to ' belong' to.

oh my: bbs's. Have stories to tell :) Was a weird world with domain specific BBS's split into local, long distance, uuencoded|uudecode, 1200-14.4k baud,... etc.

First computer I used was a TRS-80 my math teacher had. I was jealous of my friends Apple II. The 2GS is a huge step up :) My spouse has a collection of old computers include a 2c and PowerMac that still turn on as of 2 years ago ;)

Had to call 911 for an issue outside in Seattle. Kudo's to the #SPD #SeattlePoliceDepartment and 911 for quickly answering, asking pertinent questions, having 2 cars arrive in less then 2 minutes, and following up with info via text shortly thereafter. Thanks #SeattlePoliceDept

Very frustrating to see the government's thoughtful development of good tools that genuinely help people disappear -- this was a great way to show people how government can be trusted and an example I spoke of often in my public econ class

Consumption taxes (eg tariffs) impact those who consume more as % of income. Lower income, pay more as % of income. High income, opposite. Ergo, tax the poor, benefit the rich. Income or wealth taxes where the rate increases as the income or wealth increases are the opposite. #Tariffs2025

I think this is less about making the gov more efficient or Americans more healthy and more around creating dysfunctional administration which then can be privatized (benefiting the private companies) and, also reducing those organizations ability to challenge executive branch decisions.

I thought the majority party wanted less government, not more. Clearly they care more about hair than real problems.

Seattle City Council passes controversial SODO housing rezoning proposal The meeting ended with the Seattle City Council approvingΒ controversial housing rezoning changes in SODO Tuesday night.

My view is this is positive for Seattle. We need more housing and the amount (less than 1k) doesn't seem like it will impact industrial activities. Curious what others think. mynorthwest.com/local/sodo-h...

Which party and/or group puts the 99% (including workers who want healthcare) first ? Honestly, the top 1% can take care but it's the 99% (esp. the lowest income) that needs more focus.

Gotta say, for the individual that said US election fraud was such a huge issue, cutting funding to protect our elections is both laughable and, incredibly sad. www.msn.com/en-us/news/p...

RFK's comment that measles vaccine wanes 4% per year. I'm not finding any source for that comment. On the contrary, I found this: Two doses of the MMR vaccine provide around 97% immunity for life. 4% per year would imply a much higher measles case rate given how incredibly contagious it is.

I think the graphic doesn't imply zero but does show the overall trend with key milestones listed. Fair point that a logarithmic scale graph would be better (but, likely the OP just pulled what was handy)

I don't understand what "foreign policy grounds" are. Deportations can happen if: 1) criminal convictions, 2) fraud in obtaining visa, 3) address change notification (?), 4)membership in certain groups communist or authortarian, 5) dependent on public assistance (rarely enforced). Which was it ?

I saw a post on Grok so decided to give it a shot. Here is one exchange where I was pushing on Grok to give me an opinion on Musk. It didn't want to give me any opinion (assume AI guard rails) but I was able to ask one question if Musk is trying to reduce the influence of the poor, answer follows

I could be paid but the price wouldn't be trivial :) For existing owners, they should continue to drive as it's worse for the environment to stop. They can resell but then someone else is making the decision to buy one. Add signage to indicate no support for oligarchs (fill in) and, don't buy new

I think various do understand that one reason Tesla is being impacted is the partisan unelected shenanigans of Musk. The second reason I've seen that resonates for the broader EV market is, infrastructure is still a problem with EV adoption. Not everyone has a garage or dedicated spot for charge

Universities are facing big cuts to research funding. At Duke, it's a time for 'damage control' Facing the potential loss of hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding, Duke University is preparing for the worst.

This Administration is turning its back on science. If you never had the measles or polio, thank science. If you use a smartphone as easily as a computer, thank science. If you want to know if it will be raining tomorrow, thank science. A total disaster is coming.
