A tree lined path, covered in a light dusting of snow.
Well, we have winter. City plows are out but the snow is quickly accumulating - drive safely, take transit or stay home.

February was a full and eventful month in Port Moody!

I had no idea city council could choose a time zone. We canβt change anything about SSMUH or TOA but we can choose a time zone? Seems potentially chaotic.

To defend international law does not mean supporting the horrific Iranian regime, and to defend international law is not merely principled but an act of self-interest for Canada.
I wrote about just that earlier this year: justiceinconflict.org/2026/01/12/f...
People of all ages in walk, stand, play and sit in a Bilbao "school street". The traffic filtered pedestrian zone contains bollards, planters, playground equipment, painted murals, and benches, and is lined with trees and buildings.

A compelling case of advocacy affecting policy, Lersundi Kalea is Bilbaoβs first pedestrianized βschool streetβ. Rather than a top-down initiative, it was a product of years of activism by families from nearby Colegio PΓΊblico Cervantes concerned about safety, pollution, and quality of public space.π§΅
Got my dose of Canadian winter. Au revoir Ottawa.
The weather here is a bit different than Vancouver.
These photos are a great example of how unsustainable asset management is with single family zoning of this scale. There is no way to reasonably expect current rates of property taxes to fund the massive scale of infrastructure debt looming in communities everywhere. You can't refute the real data.
Personally, I think we should publicly fund elections. Not only would we remove any appearance of influence, I think it would remove barriers. Obviously, there are a lot of details to be worked out but I think it could be done.
At tonight's Finance meeting, on the agenda:

Tomorrow, the City Initiatives and Priorities Committee will be hearing presentations from Metro Vancouver staff on two studies: Housing and Transportation Cost Burden and Affordable Housing Gap Analysis. I hope to have a good discussion on these points when we see the report from staff on minimum unit sizes.
The latest edition of my newsletter is out. In it, I share my thoughts on the Public and Social Media Communications Guidelines Task Force, the Anthem application (specifically, unit size) and the differences between TOA & OCP. Reminder: the OCP public hearing is tonight. buff.ly/Jn8qA09
