This is how all my nightmares begin now
And while I don't recommend it *yet* due to a couple pre-release bugs, the next LTS (26.04) is due in April, and oyherwise runs quite nicely :) bsky.app/profile/conr...
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

Cool, so you have some Linux experience :) Desktop is fairly generic and does basic stuff well. Gnome-based, so fairly simple (if you end up wanting more customizability, you might want a KDE-based distro).
Still going strong after 22 years ;) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla... Still part of default Ubuntu install fwiw. Chrome you get via Google.
Web-based: Gmail (i use it and other Google apps in Chrome; Firefox for rest)
Local: Thunderbird
If you're brand new to Linux, start with Ubuntu; get a long term support (LTS) release and then if you feel like it doesn't meet your needs, try more distros. Booting from USB lets you test-drive without disturbing whatever you have already installed.

Really excited to have found these Ordoviciam trilobites in the Anti-Atlas, Morocco.
One is extremely tiny, but both specimens preserve clear eye detail, which always makes a find special. The small one may be a juvenile calymenid-type trilobite.

@kaitlancollins.bsky.social: β"He wants to be helpful," President Trump says regarding his conversation with President Putin and Iran, despite reports that Russia was providing intel to Iran on US military targets.β
[helpful to whom?]
Trump doesnβt have the ability to dictate when the war is over.
Can't reply directly, but in Ubuntu (26.04 (pre-release) shown) it's the Print Screen button.
TRUMP: βThe Tomahawk missile that destroyed a girls' school in Iran could have been anyone's. A Tomahawk is very generic."
RTX manufactures Tomahawk missiles in Phoenix and the U.S. only sells them to the UK, Australia, Japan, and the Netherlands.
Trump is straight-up lying.
Trump's assertion here that the Tomahawk is "generic" and that "Iran has some Tomahawks" is absurd and a lie.
The only party to this conflict that operates the Tomahawk is the United States.
Read our analysis into the Tomahawk strike in Minab here: www.bellingcat.com/news/2026/03...
Footage reviewed and geolocated by Bellingcat confirms US tomahawk missiles hit the girlsβ primary school in southern Iran that killed 175 people, most of them children.
Researcher Trevor Ball notes Israel does not possess Tomahawk missiles. United States does.
There are a very limited number of countries to which we sell the Tomahawk missile, and Iran isn't among them.
It was a US strike that killed 165 schoolgirls. Mostly aged 7-12.
While it was likely unintentional, the decision to strike a military target in a densely populated civilian area was not.
Yes, difficult decisions have to be made in war.
I donβt trust this bloodthirsty regime to make good ones.
and he just killed the guy's parents, wife, and son. I'm sure he's in a good chill mood right now.
So they killed an 86 year old man, with failing health, who was replaced by his heir apparent.
Yeah. Too much winning happening
we don't even have concepts of a win
We didnβt win?
βThe move could lead to a further escalation of the war, given Donald Trump had already acknowledged that Mojtaba Khamenei was the most likely successor and made clear he considered such an outcome unacceptable.β
awesome.
Images published by Iranian state media show remnants of a US Tomahawk missile at a girlsβ school in Minab.
Itβs not possible to independently verify the provenance of the remnants from this imagery alone. But Bellingcat previously detailed how a Tomahawk missile hit a structure next to the school.
New video footage shows a US Tomahawk missile hitting an IRGC facility in Minab, Iran, on Feb 28, showing for the first time that the US struck the area. The footage also shows smoke already rising from the vicinity of the girlsβ school, where 175 people were reportedly killed, including children.
