NY is a high taxation state, but it's not really bothered me because it comes back in human services, infrastructure, etc. You get what you pay for.
The really fucked up part about federal funding to NY State agencies is um.. That's our money??? We give more money to the federal gov than we take back in funding for programs...
I was in this test session too, I think there is 0 chance if us hearing until the testing for this round is done (I want to say that's april 9?). The last time I took an IAAP exam it was over a month before I heard anything after taking it.

I'm just glad the creator still has the page up about it so I can verify with myself i did not hallucinate its existence!! It was not marketed at being used to convert web pages into sketch files but for some reason it did that?? and it was so handy

The highest point was this free app called Paparazzi that let me put a web page in its browser window thing, and it would let me drag and drop the browser page output into a sketch file and it would convert it into shapes and textboxes and it would be like 90% correct and just need a few tweaks.
listen Figma is great and all but their plugin/developer community will never match what Sketch had at its peak. It was anarchy low key but there was a plugin for anything you could imagine, really.

It's called federal SERVICE for a reason. These folks were taking less than they were worth to do work in support of our country. Because they CARE.
The narrative that federal workers are untalented is delusional. As someone who recently shifted from civic tech to the private sector, I would liken it to finishing 9th grade and going back to 4th grade. It's just a different level of competence and efficiency.
Can we talk about how unleashing the people good enough to be hired at USDS and 18F on this job market is DIABOLICAL?? guys... That's our top talent in the country. Those positions are PRESTIGIOUS. You don't want to have to compete with them for jobs.

Yesterday I listened Katie Langerman’s breakdown of focus states on the Complimentary podcast.
I agree with every single thing she said:
1. Don’t turn off focus states (that’s bad for UX)
2. Browser default focus states suck (not obvious)
3. Custom focus states are an opportunity to do better...
VERY glad we have it. Addresses so many things that would be such massive issues. Far from perfect but we can't even fully quantify how much $$$ it saves the company
am noticing with prep for the EAA where we have to get anything in 🇮🇪 to 2.1 AA for June, that the recommendation I'm making the most is "rebuild your frontend using the design system" which has lots of company specific support and guidance rather than having to rebuild a whole frontend with nothing
umbrella company design system is in use across 200+ systems in production. huge company. Over 100 years old. probably have another 200+ legacy applications not using it (I actually have no idea). It is still worth it to our customers to ensure consistency. That 200+ is mostly customer facing.
