Ha, for me it was potato waffles. I'd eat the end line of squares off first to make the rectangle into a square and then eat each corner square individually until I was left with a centre cross of five squares, eat the surrounding four, then the centre one. Took me 35 years to realise why...

These findings sadly don't surprise me in the least.

In my current research (adapting eating disorder treatment for adults with ADHD) I've so far found no existing guidelines for supporting people with ADHD to engage in mental health treatment.

If you know of any papers on this, please share!

Today, I'd like to talk about neurodiversity.
We've had a few scientists wandering about on social media platforms, claiming that neurodiversity academics and fans are 'anti-science'.
Yesterday, I said this is like claiming that biodiversity academics are anti-science. I want to explain more/

Interesting assumption to make. I’m not a medical professional of any kind.

My role is supporting people in doing the things that are important to them, whether everyday self care tasks or engaging in meaningful activities and connecting with others and their own sense of identity.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve had such a painful experience. I have friends who have had a very different experience and for whom the pain and exclusion comes when they’re not able to be seen for who they are.

It sounds as though gender affirming care means something different to you than it does to me.

It was a *lot* 😂

Ulysses is fab, I don’t think I could have completed my MSc without it. Breaks everything down into little chunks (I had a “sheet” per paragraph) and removes procrastinatory font and margin tweaking.

It’s only on Apple but Scrivener is a great alternative for cross platform use.

Ahhh, flashbacks to uni the first time around! Chopped up an entire essay to rearrange on a balcony floor.

This memory made so much more sense once ADHD appeared on my radar a decade later. Still can’t work in Word, I use the Ulysses word processor to work with long documents now, makes it a dream.

Oh look, a new angle to seek attention. I hope it didn’t take you that long to try and come up with something clever.

Both hypotheticals you describe would in reality involve in depth highly specialised assessment and multidisciplinary professional intervention so this “example” is a non-starter.

26.11.2024 11:44 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0

It’s so hard to feel like this! There’s often such a huge “us and them” hierarchical divide between a service and service users that with all the back patting about neuroaffirmative practice for our clients no one realises it’s just as essential for the team supporting them.

25.11.2024 08:56 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

I had training like that last year. Awful. It was meant to be about supporting autistic team members but was incredibly disrespectful and deficit-based. I had to leave early because I was so angry and sickened by it. Where possible, I now avoid ND training that has no lived experience elements.

Ah yes, this too. I find the Window of Tolerance helpful for demonstrating how our sensitivities can change even within the same day depending on how we’re feeling and what’s going on. Also how there can be differences between things like predictable background sound and unexpected loud noises.

I fell into this twisty, winding rabbit hole while exploring disaffiliation from high demand religion for my MSc research (doi.org/10.1080/1442...). Most of my saved papers are about conspiracy theories and extremist views rather than politics specifically but happy to share if you’re interested ☺️
