Walking part of the Cotswold Way during a weekend in April.
Chipping Campden → Broadway → Winchcombe.
Really looking forward to it (and, really hope the Eurostar doesn’t crap out on us).
Had a great time in a bed store yesterday.
Invited to try out the mattresses, I asked the sales person if she’d set an alarm for us.
“What do you think, is this going to be the one?”
Told her we’d have to sleep on it.
10/10, great day.
A still from Nosferatu (2024)
Nosferatu (2024). Absolutely one of my favourite films I've seen in recent years.
Every frame a painting.
A little demonstration! 🪄
Trema now reflects your operating system’s light/dark mode setting, allowing you to read about books after sundown without burning your retinas 😌

Bluesky has not failed--it's literally just a website.
The left, the progressive movement, and American civil society have failed to organize a boycott of the neo-Nazi propaganda website that's central to political media. That's not on Bluesky.
This is exactly right. The Onion quietly left Twitter a month ago and... our weekly subscribers went up. It's because we're doing well here, on Instagram and on YouTube.
As a business, being on Twitter is somewhere between useless or detrimental, unless you're selling boner pills.
If after this you’d like to dig deeper, Audrey Wollen’s review of the same book is oh so layered, and very much worth a read.

One of my favourites 🥹
Where Pond, her previous work, reads like a collection of short stories, or vignettes, Big Kiss, Bye-Bye is closer to the diary of an unnamed narrator, who lives in a temporary limbo.
I'm glad Claire-Louise Bennett is back! Read my review on Trema.

A British grandmother with a valid visa detained by ICE for 6 weeks.
"So why did ICE detain her, and keep her locked up for so long? ICE officers are paid a bonus every time they detain someone. 'Individual ICE agents get money per head that they detain – the guards told me that,' Karen says."
Hell yes, you are! — beautiful! 🙌
“But what of the worker who begins their work a decade from now, who has been specialized to do nothing more than ask for something?”

This is great—and a one-time purchase, too! Glad to see someone think deeply about reading like this.
I was able to get it for the first time last year, and did, but no wonders for me unfortunately.
One year is gonna have to be flu-free for me. Come on! 😢
A bookcase filled with books. A potted plant divides two sections of books.
Reorganised our bookcase this past weekend, with a special nook reserved for @fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social.
(This is also when I found my signed special edition of Kate Briggs’ “This Little Art” has water damage from where it was stored before, but oh, it’s still in … decent shape.)
NoGood Book color proofs are in!
Progress is slow but each week I'm getting closer to finishing this insane project ✌️
😅👋
A library. Oak shelves lined with books in a bright space. A plant sits in the bottom right of the frame.
The tea bar at the library. Shelves lined with big tins of tea, an ordering station for self-service, and a bar with treats.
The renewed local library has turned into a wonderful place. Always buzzing. I visit it often to pick up a book and have a coffee or tea at the tea bar they incorporated.
Two quotes on a page. The first: “Honesty’s the best policy.” — Miguel de Cervantes The second: “Liars prosper.” — Anonymous
From Stephen King’s “On Writing”.
The cover for Roy Hargrove’s “Approaching Standards”.
I wish this sexy-ass record existed on vinyl.
Every time Mo Salah gets the ball, I expect we lose it. He needs three touches to control the ball, and just the one to lose it.
Such a bummer to see how quick he’s slid downhill.
(Wirtz and Ekitiké on the other hand, stellar combo 🫶)

My last four watched films on Letterboxd. All rewatches. Dune Part Two (4.5/5), Robin Williams: Come Inside My mind (4.5/5), There Will Be Blood (5/5), Dune (4.5/5).
Quite the weekend.
A little late, but glad this made it onto The Guardian. Too many people who use Substack are too unaware of the problematic side of its business.
