‘Mercy’ Review: Our AI Overlords Are Here Timur Bekmambetov's next screenlife action movie shows potential, but quickly squanders it in favour of AI apologia.

"While I wouldn’t call Mercy a disaster by any means, it’s definitely a prime example of how even slightly promising concepts can be squandered with the wrong kind of execution."

Bode Sulaiman reviews Mercy right here:

Still on Twitter, and Dakota Johnson’s Calvin Klein campaign is all over my timeline.

Not that I’m complaining.

FWIW: The Testament of Ann Lee just opened in select theatres, and while I’m not as in love with the film as most critics seem to be, I think Seyfried is pretty spectacular in it.

TIFF 2025 — ‘Blue Moon’ and ‘Nouvelle Vague’ Reviews: Double the Link, Double the Later Richard Linklater brings a double feature out of biopics of two people who've influenced his filmmaking style greatly.

"It’s always fascinating whenever any filmmaker has two movies opening in the same year, but with Linklater, it’s especially notable since he’s still one of the most eclectic and versatile American filmmakers that we have."

We have two Richard Linklater reviews from TIFF, reviewed by Bode Sulaiman:

TIFF 2025 — ‘Mile End Kicks’ Review: Growing Pains in Montreal’s Indie Rock Scene Chandler Levack's sophomore feature film is an endearing portrait of finding your own place in Montreal's music scene.

"It helps that Ferreira is such a talented performer, nailing Grace’s optimism in the beginning and her crushed realities as the film progresses."

TIFF 2025 — ‘Eleanor the Great’ Review: An Ambitious Directorial Debut that Drops the Ball and Never Quite Recovers Scarlett Johansson steps behind the camera and makes some strange creative choices.

"For a directorial debut from one of the most famous actors working today, I suppose that’s not nothing of a start."

I’ve been going to TIFF since 2011. This year will be the first time I get to do so as press (on behalf of @cinemafromthespectrum.com). To say I’m excited is an understatement. #TIFF50

‘Sorry, Baby’ Review: An Imperfect, But Reassured Directorial Debut This first feature film written, directed by, and starring Eva Victor cements them as a talent to watch out for.

"It feels true to life, which is one of the biggest compliments you can give a film like this (a debut no less)."

Made my CFTS debut with this review of Pixar’s ELIO, which goes about more like a personal anecdote of sorts. Check it out!

‘Elio’ Review: Pixar’s Latest is Perfectly Fine, Nothing More, Nothing Less The latest original from Pixar is serviceable enough.

"You wish there were more time spent exploring any of it in a deeper way, but it seems more focused on getting through its premise, which seems to get busier and more formulaic as it goes along, introducing more that the studio has traversed before."

‘Ballerina’ Review: A Salvaged Mess from the Reshoots This John Wick spin-off might have been saved in the edit.

"Ballerina has less globe-trotting than most of the Wick films, but features settings that feel unique enough to have a place within this film."

Sinners was always getting two weeks though, which is the standard IMAX window for the most part. I’m sure some 70mm theatres could keep it, but if they want to extend that window for the majority of screens, it would require re-negotiations between WB and the company, and that’ll be difficult atm.

Saw COMPANION.

Fun time at the movies (even if the exploration of its themes is a bit surface-level).

Sophie Thatcher deserves the world.

I hope the roof for Rogers Centre retracts for both Kendrick / SZA shows, so that “A MINOR” echoes throughout all of Toronto.
