Stimulus checks are a dumb idea. You could do a lot of public works with a trillion dollars, and we need a lot of it.
It's a very conservative idea to say that government can't build big things so we should just give you your money back.

I think the value of news is informing working people what's happening around the world and their community, not a hyper-partisan circus to be streamed constantly.
It'll be a dark day when I say Kristi Noem was a moderating force on the DHS
Isn't Fetterman supportive of ICE even as his wife is an immigrant?
If there's one thing I've learned, it's that Americans are happy and forgiving if they have high oil prices
Discord has really become popular these last few years
The market is sending a clear signal this foreign policy is a bad idea. It'd be nice if they listened.
Part of the problem of journalism dying is simply getting bad information about the state of the world
As a shareholder I've won. But as an American I wonder if I really have?
They've been fine with a Republican senator for a while so I don't have high expectations from them.
This doesn't seem to be true as far as I can tell. But it does make me wonder if authoritarian countries can ever get so high on their own online propaganda that they mislead themselves into believing they're winning.
They haven't been focused on nuclear development. They've been building drones.
It didn't seem like Iran was going to build nuclear weapons and it seems unlikely they even have the capability
Iran's weak attacks against Israel the last few years suggests they lack something in their military capacity to really make a meaningful response.
Seems they're attacking other middle eastern countries and not the US. There seems to be greater issues in retaliation that might mean they never do.
This assumes there's some global referee or even a global court that can adjudicate "fairness" in global politics. The scary part is that no such thing exists.
The problem with a rules-based order is that you need a global police who has actual power. The UN doesn't. And we keep seeing that if rules aren't enforced then they aren't real.
Any move by China is going to be first met by Japan, not the US. And the war will quickly escalate in a way that nobody can predict.
You'd be a duck?
If I had a nickel for every time a nuclear power invaded Afghanistan I'd have three nickels, which is weird that it keeps happening.

One day I'll write a Pokemon article for @liberalcurrents.com. The way we interact with people from different cultures has changed if only that we have the same language.
I've met people from around the world and traded Pokemon. We can connect in a way previous generations can't comprehend.
The world has changed so much in just thirty years.
They changed Murkow because they worried it was too witchy for the west. Today, they complimented a fan crochet of a new Pokemon they revealed in a global trailer.
Global culture has folded in on itself in a way it's hard to appreciate.
It's hard to believe the Pokemon franchise is thirty years old. It seems like it wasn't long ago I started collecting my first cards.
A few months ago I wrote an essay for @liberalcurrents.com about investing in public media. It's time for a sequel.
Are they shrimp tacos or steak tacos?
Isn't Medicare spending over a trillion a year?

I don't think Mamdani has done anything. I think that Maine is just not the place where anti-semitism will be a pressing issue, so Platner is not coming to mind.
