John Swinney: 'I won't rest until child poverty is eradicated in Scotland' In his Daily Record column, First Minister John Swinney says he will today unveil further steps to tackle child poverty.

Scotland has the lowest child poverty rate in the UK, and 90,000 fewer children live in poverty thanks to our policies.

But decisions at Westminster have too often held us back.

I want to fully eradicate child poverty, and Scotland should have the full powers to do it.

I've always refrained from attacking indy parties in public, we have an entire Scottish media for that, but I shed no tears for the demise of the Alba party, one of whose supporters told me "I wish you'd died instead of your dog," after I declined to back it when it was launched.

The fire at Glasgow central station is utterly devastating. Shops, homes and our transport link to England are being wiped out.
I am amazed by the limited news coverage.

THIS. If you’re in central Glasgow tonight please close your windows; if you have to be out please wear the best mask you have available. If you can smell it, you’re at risk.

I am also shocked by the lack of coverage of this fire. It’s so far only affecting the Union Street buildings, but one of those has partially collapsed, from what I can tell backwards into the station. And it’s not yet contained. This is major and more than halfway down BBC’s homepage.
