A side-by-side comparison between Marneus Calgar's metal model, originally released during 2nd Edition on the left, and the recently retired plastic version of him on the right. Both are painted with blue armor, red bolters, the older with yellow ornaments, the newer with golden ones. I painted the metal miniature in 2004, and it shows. It's less elaborately painted, with a limited color palette and only some edge highlighting. But: It does have a printed out banner that has been colored with pencils.
While Calgar still needs some touch-ups, I already like how he looks. Fun mini to paint.
Haven't painted a Space Marine in a while, Calgar even might have been the last one iirc. 2004 vs 2026:
