Well shit, now do I have to buy the wife a space flight for mothering Sunday?

I haven't listened in order not to get vexed but it quite clearly is *the* template for perfect who.
FXs legion and Apple's Schmigadoon nail the visual grammar I'm thinking of in their own ways but don't explore twisting it through MOTW.
Closest Doctor Who has ever come is Series five's fairytale look but it mostly just came down to grading. I want more.
Poking around how others have described this way of making a show is a "visual grammar". We can have monster of the week and have a visual grammar and the hook of a faux period show.
Original Star Trek has some of this. It's rarely mistakable as anything else but military uniforms are kinda cheating
I'm imagining fan vids and TikTok's having something to latch on to. You'd know they were referencing Who even if the people were just drinking tea. It's like a fez for your aesthetic palette 😜 #8
What if the visual style changed drastically and consistently when the sonic was used? And do the characters gradually become aware of that?
Or what if the Tardis interior is always shot in split screen or monochrome. It's only a few minutes per ep. #7
How can we take the direction even more towards building an aesthetic? Lean in to the monochrome or colorized monochrome for certain types of scenes. It's weird universe make it look weird . Look how amazingly Arcane integrates a stylistic change for fight scenes #6
Folks debate whether we need a serialized story rather than monster of the week. There are a million of those. Be different.
Make the non-story elements the continuity and ongoing hook.
A sense of style. A directorial opinion. A vintage wardrobe that is recognizable on the street by fans. #5
We know from the Twitch days that hype can build from an extended period experience London 1965! And not especially from the existing fanbase. It's a hook , a thread to love about the show. I don't think we still have enough for a modern audience. Our hooks are gimmicks. Blue box. Sonic. #4
The show can look at social issues through the lens of 60s companions taking their experiences forward occasionally to more recent times and to coloring progress or lack thereof
Some of the more visually successful stories of the late Hartnell or early Troughton era borrowed design cues from their contemporaries but we never had a budget to be dynamic with it. I want one of those Avengers high choreography high camp fight scenes on a Disney budget #3
Devil's Chord was a wasted opportunity in terms of music but I did love its visual aesthetic and direction. As Hinchliffe pastiched Hammer, let's pastiche the Prisoner , Adam Adamant Lives, The Persuaders, Avengers Time Tunnel. Take your pick #2
Hear me out. I think a lot of us feel the show needs something more radically fresh and different. What if the next reboot takes 1965 or maybe 1966 as its in-show contemporary marker rather than the present day?
Lean in to stylistic notes from the genre shows of the day. #reinventWho #doctorwho #1

Vital and vigorous.
#DCFC toyed with a roundel, but the simple aggressive ram alone makes a statement.
A wonderful image reminiscent of the Futurist art movement.

Ugh. I might incredibly grudgingly have to agree with the ordering.
I remember thinking how yours looked so cool in my Football 78 sticker book. I clearly had not developed the correct amount of distaste for trees at the time. Shrug.
Both utter classics.
We don't even have Kevin Francis to marvel at #whatthefuckinghellisthat
Fucks sake
"Hatchet face. In a nice way. Child friendly hatchet. Just teaches children to be violent until they get good at it." Moffat explaining Capaldi
So much this. When fans are banging on about the Doctor being their moral guide in real life and "just be kind" and so forth, all of which is super admirable, I'm always thinking "...but the genocides"
Be kind to folks who look 99% like you - seems like terrible messaging for the real world.
Oh, loved your pair of interviews BTW. You got a lot of depth out of your guests in not a lot of time.
Thank you!
Amen to that!
Ok, I'm taking myself away now before the white man challenging the audience to put their hands up if they feel a creator's behavior has affected them. If you can piss me off in this area then you must be far in the weeds.
I don't feel inclined to bitch at programming for #gally often but seriously, for a sensitive topic, do better in representation
I think I need to depart before I say something regrettable.
The poor moderator is trying but her panelists are walking disasters.
Trying to suppress my rage in this panel about separating the art from the problematic artist at #gally1. I think of myself as liberal rather than leftist but this bunch of white Middle-Aged writers (like me) are hardly representative and their views are stone-aged.
Sylvester McCoy and Colin Baker on the Gally Sofa
These two men are treasures. #Gally1
I love when production people get deep in the weeds about how they do their jobs in these con interviews. One of the benefits of an interviewer/moderator like @alwaysadrienne.bsky.social who knows her shit, and can talk shop. #gally1
Fuck them
