If you're curious about why I keep making tabletop games, you'll probably enjoy listening to this podcast episode! Although, I'm not sure if I actually managed to answer that question...
These games are all about negotiating risk: about engaging logically, but then pushing your luck and living with your choices. (Once you scratch, there's no going back).
So I helped build up a little narrative pocket universe for each, in settings and genres where that kind of thinking feels right!

Bonus Puzzle #10 - DESIGNER'S NOTEBOOK
... which is actually not a puzzle, but a set of 12 new puzzles, most of which require you to design a production line able to build one of two different products using conditional inputs and commands. It's challenging!

Bonus puzzle #9 - TOY CASH REGISTER
"Get kids started early on understanding the transactional nature of modern life! This toy cash register includes a light-up display and a working cash drawer. It's all about the Yukichis (Benjamins)!"

If you restart Steam this should be fixed now!
Hah, I will take a look at this today!
Bonus puzzle #8 - SLOT CAR TRACK
"Even though it was clear by the late 80s that video game racing would gain popularity over the old hobby of slot cars, someone at Matsuzawa had enough of a soft spot for it to approve the release of this track."

We are working on a fix for this!
Bonus puzzle #7 - DOLLHOUSE KITCHEN
"This kids' kitchen playset originally included real heating elements along with realistic flame and smoke effects, but those features were nixed before it went into production due to safety concerns."

Bonus puzzle #6 - BOOMBOX
"Bring the beats with Matsuzawa's biggest boom box to date! The whopping twelve D batteries it requires will definitely set you back some cash, but the volume that enables will guarantee you never lose another boom box battle!"

This puzzle was inspired by a real 1980s chess computer that I found at a thrift store while we were working on Kaizen. Even on the absolute easiest difficulty, none of us were able to beat it...
UNTIL TODAY! What a coincidence! Good work, Jay!
Bonus puzzle #5 - CHESS COMPUTER
"The Matsuzawa ENDGAME was an entry-level chess computer intended to introduce children and neophytes to the world of chess. But sales faced headwinds because nobody could beat it, even when set to the lowest difficulty."

We can neither confirm nor deny the appearance of the Matsuzawa Grendel MaxTar on the Kaizen OST.
Bonus puzzle #4 - ELECTRIC GUITAR!
"Combining the best of analog and digital into a single instrument, the Matsuzawa Grendel MaxTar included a built-in amplifier and effects unit. Plans to add oscillators and a step sequencer were shelved, however."

The original soundtrack to Kaizen: A Factory Story, by me, Sam Kulchin, and @drewmm.com is out now on Bandcamp and coming to streaming services soon! coincidencegames.bandcamp.com/album/kaizen...
Bonus puzzle #3 - ARCHERY TARGET!
"After an unsuccessful foray into developing new building materials, the Matsuzawa team realized its wood fiber composite was perfect for use in archery targets and dart boards. Thus, the sporting goods division was born!"

Bonus puzzle #2 - SYNTHESIZER!
"The battery-powered Matsuzawa Grendel let keyboard players jam with the music anywhere, anytime. It was praised for its eight realistic built-in voices and four-note polyphony, but some criticized the small number of keys."

Yeah, they're in a chapter at the end of the campaign sequence.
Weekly bonus puzzle #1 - SUPER DEFENDER BOT!
"Taking note of Defender Bot's popularity, Matsuzawa released the Super Defender Bot in 1987. It added shoulder-mounted cannons and button-activated sound effects, testing the patience of parents across the world!"

When I was working on ChipWizardโข Professional in Last Call BBS, I made that the metric because that's what made sense for integrated circuits. As I tested those puzzles, I realized I really liked it; even if a puzzle requires a minimum set of tools, you can still noodle on how to pack them in.
I had the privilege of leading the localization team on this project!
David's story resonated so deeply with my own and I'm glad I got to be a part of bringing it to other languages, especially Japanese. Our team worked particularly hard to make sure the dialogue was period-accurate. Go play it!
I'm trying to make as many solitaire games as possible so that we can get a new collection going, just give me a few years!
๐ฎ๐น๏ธ There's a new (almost) #Zachtronics game out! It's "Kaizen: A Factory Story", the latest from @coincidence.games.
It's the puzzle gameplay you know and love tied up in a great 1980s Japan setting. I had a blast with it!
