all that being said if you like psi's core layout and "cleanliness" maybe downloading gajim versions from just before the big ui change (cant remember which one it was) is worth looking into. it's not like its gonna be magically incomplete or incompatible anyways. so much more polished
and afaik it was never forked when it changed so drasticly... not sure what's with these already fine open protocol clients trying to adopt features that a corporate app forced down everyone. i use gajim because its the most functional but god i wish it was an optional change
i miss gajim before the ui was "discordified". it was perfect for me because it had the modern features but with the retro psi esque layout. (work)spaces in xmpp/matrix/etc clients make no sense to me and generally clutter the ui :( like even just having an "active chats" sidebar is weird
