No one goes to war over a solar panel
Fossil fuels aren't a shield against chaos. They are a conduit for it.
"Real energy security is about reducing strategic vulnerability. Every rooftop solar panel is an act of economic sovereignty. Every wind turbine is a barrel of oil that never has to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Every MW-hour of storage makes a grid less dependent on a pipeline or a tanker."

Lawmaker, husband ride e-bike to, and from, baby’s delivery
Rep. Katie Jones, a Minneapolis Democrat, and her husband, Peter Schmitt, pedaled to the hospital before and after their son was born.
State Rep @katiejonesmpls.bsky.social brought her newborn home from the hospital by cargo bike — made possible by years of investment in protected bike infrastructure.
When we build for ALL ages & abilities, we make the best transportation choices the easiest choices.
What a story to tell someday!

I know this sounds glib, but get some fenders. It shocks me how many bikes are sold without them in the US, and it makes biking through puddles/rain/snowmelt much, much less of a problem than if your wheels are flinging all of that wet into your face and up your back. :)

So: I don't give NYT my money any longer, and absolutely capitalism is the worst, and everyone but billionaires are squeezed more than we should be right now, but having more options for socially acceptable living arrangements will benefit everyone. Super nuclear families for the win!

As one of the married couple KT lives with, we decided it would be awesome to live together about a decade before it made sense to do it, and I'm happy every single day that we made the call to live together.

SG1 got me into sci-fi. It's got its moments that haven't aged the best, and it takes a minute to get going, but it's a great show. Also, a lot of the episodes stand alone really well, and the characters are easy to love.

Please watch the whole video from our Saint Paul Olympian. It’s one of the most direct and eloquent statements about the situation that I’ve heard from anyone.
Proud to be a Minnesotan, proud to be represented by Rich Ruohonen.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Also, I love that choosing tetrameter (to fit the Guthrie line!) means that compared to traditional sonnets every line is short.

My take is that I think it's a perfectly acceptable rhyme, and I would just spell all your words normally, they don't need to repeat the same sequence of letters, just the sound! Thanks for writing this. :)

This Cold Winter, Love Is a Superpower
There are great days and terrible days in history, days a nation or world changed, that you remember forever. For me that's the fall of the Berlin Wall, the rise of the Zapatistas, 9/11, Hurricane Kat...
For many in the Trump regime it seems incomprehensible or a scam of sorts that those not categorically under attack by ICE are so committed to solidarity with their neighbors who are, and thereby to universal human rights, to standing up on principle, and will risk their lives to do so.....

Most people have their furniture delivered anyways-- it makes total sense to bike! In Leiden where I lived there was this incredible giant thrift store which nearly everyone went to via bike which had very modest delivery fees, and so you could get furniture delivered to your place.

We are living in a time of polycrisis. If you feel trapped – you’re not alone
I hadn’t fully grasped how the idea of a better future sustained me – now I, like many others, find it difficult to be productive

In the Netherlands, when I lived there, the joke was, you could throw your bike out of a third story window onto a parked car, and the owner of the car would have to pay for the damages to your bike, because no matter the circumstances, the car is always at least partially responsible for a crash.

70% of ICE detainees have no criminal convictions, according to govt data.
Don’t fall for Trump’s lies about targeting the “worst of the worst.”
As ICE terrorizes cities to fill up detention centers, remember that some of Trump's major donors are private prison corporations.

Door-to-door raids also began in Minneapolis today, in about as brazen a repudiation of the fourth amendment as one could make. An amendment which exists because of the British doing exactly this in the colonial/revolutionary period.

1. Call and/or e-mail your Senator and your House reps. Demand Noem be impeached and removed; demand that ICE be defunded. (They're only funded through the end of January!)
