I just think we need to change the framing on this. I’m not interested in “I’m not a DEI hire.” It should be “YOU’RE WELCOME. Not only am I qualified to be here I have also brought experience, perspective and ideas you didn’t have before.”
The idea that DEI hires are bad is really a wild concept to me. So we shouldn’t try to pick teams that are diverse, equitable and inclusive? Seems like every winning team is made up of people with wildly different skills and strengths. Why would we limit our perspectives when there’s another option?
Yeah it’s not great. Maybe they will finally break it enough that we’ll have to build it back right.

However my darker sense of humor is amused by the situation. Because we’ve spent 26 years telling American school children that not only do they need to learn to hide real well at school, but if a man with a gun ever shows up their ability to hide and stay silent is life or death.
I’ve been thinking about about ICE raids and how the new administration rescinded rules that would keep them out of schools. Obviously as a teacher, I’m pretty upset at the idea of my students being traumatized in this way.
