we need Sorkin to do a walk-and-talk filled Leto-Moneo series. two seasons should suffice. maybe three.
Dune word of the day: Kanly
In-universe, a formal feud or vendetta under the Great Convention โ strict rules, originally designed to protect innocent bystanders.
From Turkish kanlฤฑ, meaning bloody.
yeah thatโs beefswelling levels of weirdness - ngl i wouldโve probably skipped out to Tupile
how is this a hot take: the Fallout series is the same type of badly written garbage as the bethesda games.

and I love how he just took it lying down. gave up his army AND his name and was like
same. i absolutely didn't see it coming and loved it when it was revealed. also, this just solidified the Corrinos' position as professional meeting minute takers in the Atreides empire :D
Farad'n Corrino from the SyFy mini-series Children of Dune (2003)
Dune word of the day: Harq al-Ada
In-universe, a name: "From this moment, you'll be called Breaking of the Habit, which in our tongue is Harq al-Ada."
From Arabic ุฎุฑูุงูุนุงุฏุฉ (kharq al-สฟฤdah), meaning the same -> breaking of habit/custom, often used for miraculous acts.
*screams in canonical*
on wednesdays we wear black
Dune word of the day: Leb Kamai
In-universe, โheart of my enemy.โ Ghanima whispered: โLeb Kamaiโฆ you shall not be my heart.โ
From Hebrew ืึตื ืงึธืึธื, literally โheart of my adversariesโ - a biblical phrase from Jeremiah 51:1, using Atbash cipher to disguise a reference to the people ruling Babylon.
Dune word of the day: Ornithopter
In-universe, any aircraft capable of sustained wing-beat flight in the manner of birds. Commonly called a โthopter.
From Greek แฝฯฮฝฮนฯ (รณrnis) + ฯฯฮตฯฯฮฝ (pterรณn) -> bird + wing
excellent episode. it was great to hear you guys once more <3
unsure how well it held up but I remember loving sliders as a (pre-)teen
does anyone think otherwise?! ๐คจ
John Rhys-Davies as Noree Moneo (the Atreides mentat in Dune 2000) pointing out some shame
i'm sorry, i promise to refrain from minute-by-minute commenting but neither of you know about Sliders?!
i'm sorry what?
when one of its main characters is portrayed by John Rhys-Davies, who is of course primarily known as Noree Moneo, the Atreides mentat in the video game Dune 2000?
shame on you
listen up everyone! the boys are back again and they didn't forget to talk a bit of Star Trek <3

The only other German word in the dictionary is Graben - I think I was more scientific and less emotional there, but while I have you, could I ask for a native speaker check?

holding that "tension in the bow" until the perfect moment to release the arrow.
So (although you're absolutely right that it's incorrect) in my head it kinda turned into "Spannung im Bogen"
As I said, that's on me and thanks a mill for the spot.
Correction's done, credit assigned to you <3

Thank you so much - dictionary updated :)
I have to admit, this one's on me. I do understand German, aber ich hab' schon seit ewigkeiten kein Deutsch gesprochen.
And so when Herbert talks about Spannungsbogen, in my mind's eye I always imagined the Fremen as bows drawn back completely,
suggestions are welcome - lmk what would be a better fit and iโll update :)
Dune word of the day: Ichwan Bedwine
In-universe, the brotherhood of all Fremen on Arrakis. Stilgar to Paul: "Now, you are of the Ichwan Bedwine, our brother."
From Arabic, meaning brotherhood of desert-dwellers.
oh same as above: Dune is over 20000 years in the future. so Herbert took Arabic (and at least 17 other languages) and incorporated them to show that all this has an Earth origin but just like real languages, things develop.
the common tongue of the Empire, for example, is called Galach
oh thanks, i'll make sure to correct that.
as for sunni ancestors - the Fremen who live on Arrakis are the descendants of zensunni or buddislamic wanderers who originated on Earth. obviously that's not a real religion but Dune is over 20000 years in the future - in Herbert's story, things developed.
