I can see why, they're fresh as hell.

New music for my old dudes... Just discovered Flatwounds, and damn they're doing solid grunge/alt-hard rock. I look forward to seeing where they go.

Minecraft is a whole level of parental Hell unto itself.
I cannot count the number of hours I've lost figuring out login issues. This is compounded by playing on non-Microsoft devices that have their own login and permission layers on top of it all.
Best five gigs attended, pass it on:
- Mr. Bungle
- Slipknot
- Ministry
- Author & Punisher
- Child Bite
HAH! I always think scratch code because my kid complains every time he has to mess with it in school.
Or maybe weβre just being punny π
Are you talking about the visual coding platform they teach kids coding principles on nowadays?
Dusting off a piece that you abandoned 20+ years ago to clear up mental space is so relatable.
I fully acknowledge that this would be a real nightmare on a larger team where each step (copy+layout+code) was handled by a different person.
But 20 years of experience has to amount to something and I suppose this is it.
I don't always work this way, but when deadlines are tight and you're understaffed, you just have to get the shit done and make sure it'll work right for the next couple years.
Which is really a puffed up way of saying that sometimes I start designing in code when I have a vague notion of what the solution could be. Then circle around and around the problem until what I've put together finally makes sense.
One of the fun challenges of being a solo web designer + front end dev is that I have the opportunity to work out complex communication challenges through rapid iteration.
Gross.
Once again, tech companies are bringing the cringier aspects of William Gibson's Sprawl series to life.
I'd much rather have music recommendation engines based on "a person in this band was also in that other band you like" and "these folk opened for that band once" than whatever fuckery goes into current music app algorithms.
Fun Fact that I just learned (because I also love wikipedia deep dives on trivial topics): Their guitarist/keyboardist Greg Kurstin is the bee in @thebirdandthebee.bsky.social. I didn't know this back when I was listening to B&B 15+ years ago, but I can totally see the through line now.
Geggy Tah popped on during my drive into work this morning. Their music is delightful, weird and poppy for its time. I've loved it ever since middle school and you should enjoy it too.

As a parent who's spent bajillions on Lego for my obsessed kid, I'd bristle at having to pay more for a set because it comes with fancy sound effect bricks when I know he won't give a flip about them.
Everything I've read about the Lego Smart Bricks make it sound a lot more fun for adult collectors who aren't comfortable doing voices and making sound effects, whereas kids love doing that. It's part of the core of imaginative play that Lego facilitates.
A fun one from Dean (Electronic Sounds) to start off your day.

Iβm excited to say that I will have a piece in the upcoming Friday the 13th art book coming in April from @printedinblood.bsky.social
You can preorder your copy at printedinblood.com/product/frid...
We've been reading this as a family this holiday season. It is a delight.
but the kerning between the 'n' and the 'd' is driving me a little nuts.
Letting the fox guard the hen house.
That attitude tends to be shear panic from the looks of all the out-of-towners I see going the wrong way as I'm heading into the office here at UNL π
YES, thank you. I watched this last week and was annoyingly underwhelmed after all the promotional hype about the soundtrack and setting. This story could've been told anytime anywhere and the soundtrack was mid at best.
Following up on the previous post... I've learned that The Mae-Shi recently reformed and then evolved into @hlllyh.bsky.social and are continuing to make utterly delightful noise pop:

Fun Fact: John Famigliette of HEALTH guest stars in this video.
Fun Fact 2: Uncle Scooter and Brad Breeck were bandmates in college. Providing vocals and drums respectively in Coefficient of Friction. Who were maybe a little influenced be FNM/Bungle/Primus

My kiddo is learning the Gravity Falls theme song on guitar this week. This prompted a quick chat with his Uncle Scooter, my favorite music nerd. He reminded me that Brad Breeck was in The Mae-Shi, who put out this delightful banger, Run to Your Grave. Give it a listen:

From a dev perspective, I'd rather have the latest CSS features available in all of my browsers than having different kinds of AI shoe horned into my browsing experience.
