75. Star Trek Generations. Is it a good film? No. Does it At least give Kirk a good send off? Also no. But it did have some nice moments between Kirk and Picard (not enough, but you know), and Malcolm McDowell on fantastic villain form. Also, first Trek I saw at the cinema. #365films

The first time I was shown the book, I asked what it was about.
The person with the book said one word, "Rabbits"

74. High Fidelity. Okay, I haven’t watched this in years, so maybe it doesn’t hold up. But my memory tells me it’s a good film, that a lot of people misunderstood. Rob Gordon is a dick, which is the point. But the film lets us laugh at him as he learns to not be. Plus, Springsteen cameo! #365films

73. Jason and the Argonauts. One of my favourite Harryhausen films. Telos, the harpies and, of course, the skeletons, are all superb set pieces. I’m surprised we haven’t had a modern remake of it (maybe Clash of the Titans put Hollywood off), but I’m glad too, as it wouldn’t look as good. #365films

73 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade released in 1989. Either the best or second-best Indiana Jones films. The addition of Sean Connery as his dad was a great choice. Many say this is the final Indiana Jones movie.

72 - Honey, I Shrunk the Kids released in 1989. For a late '80's movie a pretty amazing set of effects. Definitely miss Rick Moranis in movies.

72. Invasion of the Body Snatchers. This is one of those rare occasions where I like the remake more than the original version of a film. The 1978 Body Snatchers is chilling in a way the original can’t quite match, and has a superb cast. Plus, one of the greatest final shots ever. #365films

71. Godzilla. Or Gojira. The original, and (one of) the best Godzilla films. When you compare it to many of the later, sillier films in the series, it’s a real eye-opener. It’s well paced, dark and moody, and superbly done throughout. I need to watch the American version one of these days. #365films

71 - Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure released in 1989. Whoa, we all find out about Keanu Reeves. George Carlin is great too. This is very much a cult classic that improved with age, I think.

70 - Batman released in 1989. The first of the modern superhero films? Continued the amazing growth of Michael Keaton as an actor for the '80's. Almost a decade since Superman flew out as a superhero film. Prince + Danny Elfman! Burton + Keaton + Elfman!

69 - Back to the Future Part II released in 1989. Not as good as the first but expanded upon the idea in interesting ways. Too bad we didn’t get the 2015 it predicted. We got the bad timeline it seems.

70. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. I became a huge FF fan in the PS1 era. FFVIII’s FMV cutscenes made me want a Final Fantasy movie. And then one arrived, and while it looked great, it bore no resemblance to the games. There’s some interesting ideas, but it was just a bit of a mess. #365films

68 - Willow released in 1988. 80's fantasy action film with a great Val Kilmer and lots of practical effects and costumes. A rare LucasFilm and MGM combo.

67 - Who Framed Roger Rabbit released in 1988. Best mixing of live action and animation since Mary Poppins. Combining all the Disney and WB cartoons in a single movie, no way! Maybe we will get another one once all IP is owned by one company.

69. Blade. This is where the modern Marvel blockbuster starts, and leads us to the MCU, and what comic book movies are today. For better and for worse. Still, in its own right, it’s a great action vampire film, and Wesley Snipes is awesome as Blade. #365films

65 - Midnight Run released in 1988. Robert De Niro as a bounty hunter that can never catch a break. Fun action comedy buddy film. I think it is much better than it is given credit for.

67. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. My second favourite Trek film. Get me in the right mood, I might even say favourite. It’s a magnificent swan song for the TOS crew, with some great effects stuff, and classic Star Trek political commentary. I love it. #365films
