Huawei Claims HarmonyOS Apps Will Soon Be Equivalent to Android & iOS Huawei is signaling a turning point for its in-house operating system, HarmonyOS. The China-based phone maker says the apps on HarmonyOS are about to reach the same level of maturity as Android and iOS mobile platforms. If the company meets its expected deadline, the app parity could arrive within weeks rather than years. Additionally, Huawei has announced that HarmonyOS will likely exceed 100 million devices by the end of this year. ## Apps on HarmonyOS will be equivalent to Android and iOS by April Huawei Consumer Business Chairman Richard Yu expects HarmonyOS apps to reach equality with Android and iOS by April. Yu says the app ecosystem is expanding rapidly as more developers are adopting its in-house development framework and publishing dedicated HarmonyOS versions of their applications. Third-party app developers have been working with HarmonyOS Next, the version of the brand’s platform that removes compatibility layers tied to Android. That shift pushed developers to create native apps instead of relying on adapted Android versions. Yu mentioned that thousands of apps are already available in its ecosystem. These include services in banking, transportation, shopping, entertainment, and productivity. The company expects this number to continue rising as more developers release HarmonyOS-specific versions of their software. ## HarmonyOS will likely exceed 100 million devices this year Furthermore, the Huawei executive revealed that more than 100 million devices will likely run HarmonyOS 5 and 6.0 by the end of 2026. The adoption rate for the brand’s newer software versions is accelerating. Achieving 100 million active installations of a completely independent mobile operating system within this timeframe will be a massive milestone for the company. The 100 million estimate covers a wide range of Huawei devices, including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and other connected products. Huawei wants to capture a third of the mobile OS market share. As the user base of HarmonyOS expands across devices, the pressure on Apple and Google will only increase.
