Yay, #AstroPy v7.2 finally allows users to work with world coordinates in the units they want. 😀

Since PixInsight 1.9.3 requires master calibration images in XISF format, to the exclusion of FITS, I must now calibrate all of my light images outside of PI so that I can continue to use my FITS masters. I've created a suite of #astropy & #ccdproc based scripts for this github.com/daleghent/im... 🔭
Heavy lifting is done by #astropy and #sqlite. Might work on a rust version of this in the future, which actually motivated the come up!
Speaking of #astropy, for the same initial data (chances are I am using the time wrong, mayhaps), both sgp4 in rust and python library give me the same x,y,z at the epoch time (data publication)

Linear regression of ToupTek ATR585M in Low Conversion Gain mode. R-squared of 0.999982
Linear regression of ToupTek ATR585M in High Conversion Gain mode. R-squared of 0.999997
Linear regression of ToupTek ATR585M in High Dynamic Range mode. R-squared of 0.999938
I recently got a ToupTek ATR585M and wanted to see how linear it is in its different readout modes, so I made a #astropy and #matplotlib script. Point this at a directory of images and it'll burp out a linear regression plot in PNG form to show you, with residuals noted. github.com/daleghent/im... 🔭
One thing I like about #astropy is that you can set dates, times, and angles as strings. So, I added this feature to the SuperNOVAS C/C++ astrometry library also, coming in the v1.3.0 release around 15 May, and available on Github now. #astrocode github.com/Smithsonian/...
Made a small page for my remote telescope. Nothing fancy, just some facts about it. Will add more stuff over time, such as a repo of astropy-based image calibration & reduction tools I've been working on (ty to @brettmorr.is for the #astropy ws @ #aas245 ).❤️ #astronomy daleghent.com/observatory
Did you know that the SuperNOVAS C/C++ library (on GitHub) will calculate astrometric positions to sub-microarcsecond precision a whopping 850 to 30000 times faster than astropy in a single thread, depending on the type of calculation?
That's not a small difference...

NASA has awarded $15M+ in funding to open-source software projects that underpin scientific innovation. Great to see #astropy on the list! www.nasa.gov/news-release... 🔭
Many ASTRON researchers make use of #AstroPy and some have also contributed to its development. In our opinion this is a well-deserved award to all those around the world who have contributed to it. Congratulations! 🎉

If anyone ( #AstroPy folks?) knows of a good up-to-date scientific python optimization guide, I would be very greatful!
OSSci will be in beautiful Prague this Thursday, May 16. Thanks to the PyData Prague team for putting together a great agenda. 50+ people registered. Please share with your networks. Thanks!
