WhereFromtoComment Automator Action — Uncaught Exception Want to sort downloaded files by the URLs you downloaded them from? This Automator action copies the links to the Comments field so you can see them and sort your downloads by where they came from.

Hey #mac users of Bluesky, I have released my first utility. It’s an Automator Action that copies the URLs hidden in the metadata of your downloads into the Comments field so you can see & sort them. Donationware.

#Apple folks, what is the best way to monitor a folder under #macOS and invoke a shell script/command when new files are added?

I want to have a PDF-inbox, which gets OCRt whenever I add a new file. Currently my NAS does this via cronjob and I need a better solution.

#Automator ? #FSWatch ?

I never used the #apple #shortcuts app, and just started. Years ago I was a big fan of macOS’s #automator, but never really tried the new app.

I started testing it, but I find it a little tricky: e.g. if I try to define a shortcut for using ChatGPT for finding a daily sentence and Message for…

Save Time Resizing Images on Mac With a Quick Action Resizing images in macOS is easily done in the Preview app, but if your daily workflow requires you to scale images to a specific size – for uploading to a blog, for example – then using an image resize Quick Action is a much faster way of getting the job done. In this article, we'll show you how to use the Automator app to create a simple Quick Action that, once saved, will have you resizing images in just a couple of clicks, without even going near an image editing app. Keep reading to learn how it's done. ## Create a Resize Image Quick Action 1. Launch Automator from the **Applications** folder. 2. Click **New Document** , then choose **Quick Action** as the type of your document. 3. Select **Files and Folders** in the Actions sidebar, then drag **Get Specified Finder Items** to the workflow area. 4. Click the **Workflow received current** dropdown at the top and select **image files** from the menu. 5. Select **Photos** in the Actions sidebar, then drag **Scale Images** to the workflow area. 6. Automator will prompt you to add a Copy Finder Items Action to save the original files in a separate folder. We're sticking to a simple workflow of resizing images here, so we click **Don't Add**. 7. In the Scale Images action panel, type the width that you want to resize your images to. We're going to use 1200 pixels. 8. In the Automator menu bar, select **File ➝ Save...** , call your new Quick Action "Resize Image", then click **Save**. ## Use Your New Quick Action Next time you want to resize an image, simply right-click (or Ctrl-click) the item in Finder and select **Quick Actions ➝ Resize Image** from the contextual dropdown menu. You can also drag a selection box over several images and resize them all in one go using the Quick Action. ## Add a Keyboard Shortcut Why not assign a key shortcut to your image resize Quick Action to speed up the process? To do so, launch System Settings, select **Keyboard** in the sidebar, then click the **Keyboard Shortcuts...** button. Select **Services** from the sidebar, expand the "Pictures" checklist, and you should find **Resize Image** near the bottom of the list. Double-click the line item where it says "none", then enter your custom key combination. Click **Done** when you're finished. By integrating this Quick Action into your macOS workflow, you should be able to efficiently resize images with just a few clicks, saving you time and enhancing your productivity. Turn Any macOS Folder Into an Image Converter – Here's How In macOS, you can easily convert the format of images using a Quick Action in Finder or you can achieve the same thing via the Preview app, but if your daily workflow requires you to repeatedly convert images – for uploading to a blog, for example – then using a Folder Action can be a much faster way of getting the job done. In this article, we'll show you how to use the macOS Automator app to create a very simple Folder Action that will automatically convert images dropped into a specific folder, without you having to manually apply a Quick Action or open an image editing app. Keep reading to learn how it's done. ## How to Create an Image Converting Folder in Automator 1. Launch **Automator** from the Applications folder. 2. Click **New Document**. 3. Choose **Folder Action** as the type of your document. 4. At the top of the workflow area, click the dropdown next to **Folder Action receives files and folders added to:** then select **Other...**. 5. Select the folder that you'd like to attribute the image conversion action to. In our example, we're choosing the Downloads folder. 6. From the **Library** sidebar on the far left, select **Photos**. 7. From the **Actions** column, drag **Change Type of Images** (the one with the Preview icon) to the workflow area. 8. A dialog prompt will appear. If you want your action to convert copies of images placed in the folder and preserve the originals, select **Add**. If you want it to convert the original images, select **Don't Add**. 9. In the **Change Type of Images** action panel, choose the type of format that you want images to be converted to. We're selecting **JPG**. 10. In the Automator menu bar, select **File -> Save...** or press **Command-S** , call your new file action "Convert Image," then click **Save**. That's all there is to it. Next time you want to convert an image into your preferred format, simply drag it into the folder that you assigned the action to. Now that you know how to create the image conversion workflow in Automator, you may want to turn it into a standalone "Application," the option for which you can find in Automator's document menu. An "Application" is a self-running workflow that acts as a droplet – any files or folders dropped onto it are used as input to the workflow. In other words, you could add an "Application" to your Dock and drop images onto it for conversion. You can also import Automator workflows into the Shortcuts app. Shortcuts can convert most Automator workflows into shortcuts that carry out the same functions, events and automations — you simply drag a workflow file into Shortcuts and the conversion happens automatically. Lazyweb question. If I had a series of folders, each with sub-folders, and in some of those folders were images, would it be possible in #applescript or #automator to iterate through those and create a Word doc where the folder names became headings for the images?
