Watching my son #cycling to school, having equipped him with the skills he needs to minimise #risk, makes me proud to teach #bikeability. Instead of calling out "Go carefully!" I say, "Remember to use those skills!" (Photo is from last summer, best I could do).
A week ago we switched the rain of the UK for the snow of VT. Now we’re back fully refreshed ready for a bike filled month of riding, #bikeability and event work.
First up Outdoor First Aid recertification.

Earlier this year I started delivering #Bikeability in hyper diverse #Leicester. One of the first schools had a blond kid with a bike, a bit tatty but clearly his, he could ride it well but seemed a bit slow to pick up on instructions. Ah yes said the TA, he arrived from #Georgia 6 weeks ago 1/n

The kids were little stars, the lapwings were out testing their vocal cords and to top it off I was able to commute in shorts. Does it get any better? Sure beats sitting in a car stuck in traffic.

During #bikeability sessions we teach children the practical skills & knowledge to cycle safely & confidently on roads. We also show them how to park their bikes safely out of the way of pedestrians on the pavements.
But who does it better? The instructors or the children? 🤷🏻♂️🤣

#Cycling on the road as a family means my children understand the roads and learn to manage the risks, using the #Bikeability skills they learned in year 6.

I'd say the best thing for your daughter would be to do #Bikeability and for her to then teach it to you. That's easily the best way for her to learn, and you can then ride confidently on the road together.

#Hillingdon's "exciting" cycling strategy, in a borough that does done sweet FA for decades, largely involves #Bikeability, tarting up Grand Union Canal, and finally building a cycleway to Brunel University which opened in 1966.
