Brown water hyacinths and tall grasses in the back. Somewhere in the middle, a brown bittern stalking a prey.
I love bitterns. This one was visible because its stripes went the wrong way against the vegetation. It didn't care because it was about to catch a really nice lunch. More photos to come.

It was , as the Scot’s say, a dreich day yesterday. It was the final bittern watch of the season at Strumpshaw fen and there was a final flight seen.
