2025 Wrapped: Building Decarb Edition
The leading driver of inflation? It’s not eggs. In the past year, household gas bills have risen more than twice as fast as electric bills, outpacing the rate of overall inflation by almost 400%.
Gas infrastructure is an expensive problem. Electrification is the solution. On average, 66% of our gas utility bills go toward infrastructure and not energy use. What this looks like is an annual bill of $21 billion that households are collectively paying for gas infrastructure.
Heat pumps are trending, and the U.S. is leading. Heat pumps outsold gas furnaces for the third year in a row, and 90% of owners recommend them. Heat pumps are three to four times more efficient than gas furnaces, which reduces energy use and lowers monthly utility bills.
