Other bodies can and do offer good quality subject specific #clpl, but this often relies on teachers giving up their free time as its nigh on impossible to get out of schools during the school week. Paid for #cpd almost unheard of due to diminished budgets.
There is virtually no #clpl to improve the pedagogical content knowledge of subject teachers by LA employers. This can only lead to them becoming better teachers of their subjects and improving teaching and learning.
Most #clpl for most teachers in recent years has been broad, generic topics such as moderation (don't get me started...), behaviour & trauma-informed practice etc, getting to big numbers of teachers and with (hard to measure) benefits, but little impact on teaching and learning.
The more I consider it, the more I'm struck by the utter madness of #clpl provision in Scottish education - especially in secondaries. There is virtually no provision of #subjectspecific #cpd from employers, who have all but removed supports at all levels to save limited funds.
Thoroughly enjoyed visiting colleagues at CastleheadHS to offer support for #practical work in my role as an IOP #physics coach. It's great to work with individual schools, but imagine the impact of being able to support a whole LA with subject specific #clpl
