Bitter Consolation By Richard H. Fay Being told you now exist in a better place Be bitter consolation for my dreadful loss. Perhaps this eulogizing priest should share A caring thought for those of us you left behind. No longer shall my toilsome life be graced With your sweet smiles and kindly words. No longer shall my work-worn body be soothed By the warmth of your touch and tender caresses. Promises of paradise be fine for Sunday sermons, But they do little to comfort the grieving. Pledges of spiritual reunion beyond the veil Do nothing to lift up my grief-stricken soul. The truth of the matter is that you are gone; No hollow words of comfort will bring you back. If there be a Heaven and you be residing there, Then you remain heart-wrenchingly out of reach.

I think it speaks some bitter truths.
