One of the last #CardinalFlower blossoms along a foot bridge crossing a currently dry creek at #SaratogaNationalHistoricalPark. The battlefield unit of the park is about 3,000 acres and the Wilkinson Trail is over 4 miles long and this is the only spot I've seen this native #wildflower. #Photography

A ruby-throated hummingbird hovering in front of a cardinal flower. The cardinal flower is a tall plant just right of center at the photo. The bottom 2/3 of it is bare, but at the top are a number of brilliant scarlet flowers. The hummingbird is hovering just to the left of the red flowers. It is a female with a metallic green back and head and a white throat. The eye is black with a small white spot behind. The eye and the long beak are black. Its dark wings are spread open behind the bird. There is a little bit of black edging on the tail and white at the very end. In the background are a lot of blurred pink flowers and green leaves.
