What a busy August it’s been for our group! 🌍✈️
From our Summer Course in Copenhagen to #EPIC25 in Aarhus and #ESEB25 in Barcelona. So great to see so many of our researchers sharing their work through talks and posters!
An inspiring month full of science, learning, and collaboration! 🙌✨
My first time at the #ESEB25 congress has been a good experience!
Thanks to the organizers of the S44 for giving me the opportunity to present my research on temperature and recombination🦎 & to those of the S38 for letting me present my poster on the 3D chromatin structure🐢
See you at the next one!🧬
It looks like the @eseb2025.bsky.social #museomics symposium was a great success. If you want to learn more about the analysis of genomics data derived from natural history collection, we only have 4 seats left for our course in Nov.
#eseb25
On my way home from #ESEB25 it was inspiring to see that evolutionary biology research is alive and well! So many new ideas and insights. Thank you to @tonigabaldon.bsky.social @sesbe-org.bsky.social @eseb.bsky.social and all the volunteers for making this possible!
Leaving Barcelona. What a fun week, lots of learning, lots of thinking. I hope to catch up with all of you soon (next ESEB?)!!
#eseb25
Great to see so many people at our symposium om the origin of eukaryotes. Thanks to all the speakers! #ESEB25 @julianvosseberg.bsky.social
Very biased opinion but you should not miss this talk tomorrow at #ESEB25 🍃
Great science on very cool critters!
If you like evolutionary rates or donut-shaped trees, check out the poster bybstudent Ruby Redlich (313) today at #ESEB25 benchmarking rate inference performance
Hey everyone! Do you want to know about why nitrogenase is one of the most interesting egg chicken problems in early life, and what's @kacarlab.bsky.social approach to understand it? Check my poster this afternoon (P03.117).

A narrow street decorated for a festival with large, colorful papier-mâché sea creatures hanging overhead, including several Nautilus figures with striped shells. Bright fabric shades in purple, black, and green are strung above, while additional decorations such as flowers and lizards adorn the sides. Apartment balconies and building facades line the street.
A man wearing a headset microphone is giving an outdoor science talk, pointing at a large screen showing an image of the flatworm Macrostomum lignano. The slide text reads "Separate sexes are not a given," with labels pointing to "Testes producing sperm" and "Ovaries producing eggs." Festival decorations, including colorful paper flowers and geometric designs, hang in the background, and people are gathered to watch.
Amazing evolutionary biology outreach at the Fiestas de Gràcia in Barcelona.
@rawwiberg.bsky.social explained that not everything we assume about sex is a given and that we can learn a lot from the exceptions.

I'll be presenting at #ESEB25 tomorrow! Pop along to room 114 @3:30 if you want to hear about inbreeding depression, hierarchical models and barn owls of course 🦉
S42.02 - looks like it's going to be a great session! 😊
Interactive symbiosis in silico (back) and in vivo (front). #ESEB25
Loved the sticker. It’s totally fridge-level. @hayleybethfree.bsky.social #ESEB2025 #ESEB25 #TransposableElements
If you have any question regarding my talk, don't hesitate in reaching out. I'll be happy to answer them! #ESEB25 #COMFUTURO @multicellgenome.bsky.social @ibe-barcelona.bsky.social
And for another #ESEB25 poster, now by Izabel Salvi
#ESEB25 2 for 1!
Come to see my posters, spot 260, today if you'd like to chat about :
how gender identities play a role in the type of species interactions people study (⚔️or 🤝?)
or if you want to learn more about the weapon evolution of the great rhinoceros beetles ⚔️🦏
Do not miss this course with @marcelauliano.bsky.social & Joao if you are interested in Genome Assembly using #longreads @pacbio.bsky.social data #ESEB25
If you are interested in #macroevolution, check some of our lab student's posters today at #ESEB25, 296 and 303!

Extremely proud to be part of this project integrating stratigraphic paleobiology with phylogenetics. Go and chat to Nik if you’re at #ESEB25 or check out his poster via the link below!
My highlight from this second morning of #ESEB25 is the great talk of @clairemerot.bsky.social on structural genomic variants. (yes, we all struggle when bioinformatics analyses don't meet our expected patterns 😒)
Geological information improves phylogenetic inference 🥳
Excited to present our work on the interactions of #stratigraphy, #paleontology, and #phylogenetics at #ESEB25, poster board 312

A stone fountain in a lush garden, featuring a cascading water staircase flowing down multiple steps. The water runs through a stone channel into a spout, then falls into a small circular basin at the base. The structure is framed by greenery, with tall trees and dense bushes surrounding the scene. Fallen leaves and twigs cover the dirt ground in front of the fountain.
In preparation for #ESEB25 I visited the sampling site in Barcelona where the workhorse strain of the planarian research community originates. I’ve spent the last 5 years trying to understand how asexuality evolved in Schmidtea mediterranea—see my talk in session S28.02 to hear all the results!
Very excited for the #ESEB25 conference next week 😁If you are interested in mobile genetic elements and the impacts they have on th #ecology and #evolution of organisms then come to our symposium (S10) on Monday at 14:00
