I finished Paul Cooper's book Fall of Civilizations: Stories of Greatness and Decline-an offshoot of his podcast by the same name. Incredibly informative and well-written. The prose flowed and was eminently readable, something more academic books often fail at.

TIL that Halagu and Kublai were brothers. The #FallofCivilizations podcast is sooo good .
