A comma butterfly feeding on mahonia on Wednesday
#FlutterbyFriday So pleased to see my 1st #butterfly of the year on Wednesday, normally they are very flighty but this #comma was happily feeding on mahonia. Which species will be my next? Can't wait to find out. @savebutterflies.bsky.social #Lancashire #vitaminN

The sun making this red admirals wings glow as he pinched my warmth too!
#FlutterbyFriday with my lovely red admiral friend from yesterday. He circled me twice then landed on my hand giving me chance to admire him close up. I've seen so many #butterflies this year, but this moment was priceless. @savebutterflies.bsky.social #Lancashire #joy #vitaminN
Red admirals still around this week making use of mushy rotten fruit and the last of the flowers
#FlutterbyFriday with the two #butterflies seen this week, both red admirals one #Lancashire, one #Cheshire, both looking surprisingly smart! Hard to spot (as shown in top photo!) @savebutterflies.bsky.social #vitaminN #joy

Lovely yellow margin on the underside upper wing, and total yellow on the underside lower wing. I've only seen them like this here on Shropshire and on Anglesey. Those I see in Lancashire are usually the traditional white
#FlutterbyFriday with the pretty yellow green veined white feeding on mint by the shores of the #RiverSevern at Highley, #Shropshire yesterday. Lovely patch of mint, hemp agrimony, marsh thistles, borage, purple loose strife and brambles to choose from. @savebutterflies.bsky.social

A super speedy painted lady who wasn't hanging around!
#FlutterbyFriday with a painted lady seen at #BlackpoolZoo yesterday. This beautiful lady seemed to have a kink in the right upper wing but it wasn't causing any flight issues. @savebutterflies.bsky.social #butterflies #vitaminN
From top left; red admiral, my buddleia 'patch' down right hand side from the top: peacock, red admiral, large white, speckled wood, peacock, then remaining two shots speckled wood on golden rod and peacock on buddleia.
#FlutterbyFriday With a few of my garden visitors yesterday, red admiral, peacock, speckled wood, large white... As you can see (2nd pic in from the top left) my buddleia is insane this year, along with golden rod and a huge unruly patch of lavender. @savebutterflies.bsky.social #Lancashire
Top small copper, middle; comma, bottom; common blue. Important to note their feeding habits, all on wildflowers ragwort and vetch.
#FlutterbyFriday with 3 beauties seen this week; top small copper, middle; comma, bottom; common blue. Wonderful seeing #butterflies having a great year, though please keep going with bigbutterflycount.org so the data can be collected. @savebutterflies.bsky.social #Lancashire
Comma butterflies seen recently, the top one seems to have a more fluid, softened outer edge
#FlutterbyFriday a little help please, I took the top comma photo at #ArnsideKnott on Wednesday, but it looks rather different to the ones I see locally in #Preston. Could it be a Hutchinsoni? @savebutterflies.bsky.social #butterflies #Lancashire
A stunning peacock butterfly feeding on buddleia in my garden
#FlutterbyFriday Will you see any peacock as part of the #BigButterflyCount, which starts today? This beauty has been in my garden since weekend, so happy to see my favourite #butterfly. @savebutterflies.bsky.social
A white letter hairstreak enjoying the brambles, easy to see from this photo how hard it is to spot them, they blend in very well despite their bright underwing colouring
#FlutterbyFriday Nothing to see here! 🤭 A shy white letter hairstreak from #BrockholesNatureReserve on Wednesday. You can just about see him/her peeping at me! @savebutterflies.bsky.social #Lancashire @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
