A ★★★★½ review of Hard Target (1993) After a ho-hum watch of Commando, I was not expecting 1993’s Hard Target to hit me the way it did. On paper, it's just another over-the-top Hollywood action flick that swaps out Arnold for a mullet-headed Jean-Claude Van Damme. But underneath the slow motion and the shotgun ballet, it’s actually about something I care about, the needy and the downtrodden. Homeless veterans hunted for sport by rich psychopaths, exploited and discarded by people with money and zero conscience. It scratches the same class-rage itch that They Live did for me, and that caught me completely off guard. And I forgot
