As part of strengthening national reserves, Qatar has enhanced its strategic grain storage capacity to approximately 320,000 tonnes, ensuring a reliable supply of essential food commodities and reinforcing the country’s preparedness for emergencies or supply disruptions. The war in Iran could plunge the world into hunger Up until the end of February, a steady flow of ships bound for destinations across the world would pass daily through the Strait of Hormuz. A narrow channel running between Oman and Iran, the waterway serves as the only natural maritime link between the Persian Gulf and the global economy. Technology-driven reduction of fish post-harvest loss could enhance food security and economic resilience The following results quantify the system-level potential of post-harvest technological interventions to increase the availability, nutritional value, and economic efficiency of aquatic foods. We first examine how technological adoption alters the fraction of harvested fish ultimately utilised for direct human consumption. We then assess the nutritional implications of recovered biomass using a representative, nutrient-rich species as an illustrative upper envelope. Finally, we explore the economic consequences of improved utilisation through a simplified cost-structure framework. It should be noted that rather than predicting realised outcomes, the analysis is designed to establish upper bounds on what could be achieved under idealised and harmonised adoption conditions, thereby bounding the scale of opportunity embedded in post-harvest optimisation. Between trying to slow down emissions and tackle future climate change while trying to handle the effects we’re already seeing and heal the deep divisions in our society, she said, coming together to solve a collective challenge like climate change is a herculean task. But Carlisle, whose research focuses on food and farming, said there is a way to make inroads into the problem, and the solution could be right under our feet. In her book, “Living Roots: The Promise of Perennial Foods” (Island Press, 2026), Carlisle and co-editor Aubrey Streit Krug assert that relying more on perennial crops can help ease the many difficulties of adapting to a changing climate. “I came to perennial foods because I see these foods and the movement building around them as this really promising solution that can help us to tackle these collective challenges,” she said.
