Robot 'mice' developed to inspect Large Hadron Collider The UK Atomic Energy Authority developed the robot with the European nuclear research centre, Cern.

The robot - which is 3.7cm wide - travels autonomously through the narrow pipes making up the 27km-long collider.

The invention has made it much easier to check areas which can be extremely tight and cold.
