Here's the full slate of 6 awards for 2025! If you can't see it, here's how it broke down: Best Design: Hamnet Best Music: The Secret Agent Best Editing: Train Dreams Best Directing: Hamnet (Chloé Zhao) Best Visuals: Train Dreams Best Acting: Hamnet Best Writing: Bugonia Best Film: Hamnet And having seen all 10 Best Picture noms, and a handful of the other nominees, I feel very good about that class of winners.
Some folks are more visual learners, and here, the movie posters accompany the awards, which you have read on the other alt-text. Hamnet appears four times (makes sense; it was, by far, my favorite), Train Dreams awarded twice, and Bugonia and The Secret Agent both awarded once, and again, that feels very right based on the mouth feel and apparent qualities of those films.

I have never cried harder in a #film than #Hamnet, both absolutely wrecked by the tragedy midway through, and then buoyed by the most uplifting and beautiful conclusion to a #movie than I've ever seen.

This is kind of a tier thing for me. S Tier: Hamnet and Bugonia are two incredible films. I'd be thrilled for either to win Best Picture, but probably neither is. A Tier: Sinners, The Secret Agent, Train Dreams and Frankenstein are all worthwhile and substantive films that just didn't hit quite as hard as the S Tiers. B Tier: F1 and Marty Supreme are both bad movies that don't deserve to be here, and if you like either of those films a lot, you probably suck. F Tier: One Battle After Another is one of the worst things I've ever seen, and if you like that movie, you should look into counseling or art therapy or something. Like, seriously.

I think we can definitively say, especially with this year's crop, that 10 is too many #BestPicture nominations.
I fully hated #MartySupreme, #OneBattleAfterAnother & #F1, and don't think they were good #movies, besides.

Idk what it is, but it feels like a 'real' film right away.
Part of it might be Wagner Moura, whom I adore from his work on Narcos. I'm excited to see him cook here.
I immediately like something about the #TheSecretAgent a lot.
... it sure isn't its 161m runtime, but even in just the first minute, the vibes are right in this #film, especially amidst what's been a VERY hit-or-miss #OscarsHomework run.

I've hated other #OscarsHomework more, for big-picture philosophical reasons, but #MartySupreme is a uniquely torturous experience. Maybe in all of #film, actually.
I did love Hamnet, but my watches are dictated by #OscarsHomework at the moment, until The Miaouscars 🤓

I loved it! Saddest fucking thing ever, maybe worse than #Hamnet (good Lord with the child death in #OscarsHomework; very hard for me), & I felt it didn't 100% come together, but it was exceptionally moving & probably the best-looking #film I've seen this year.
