I was wondering about painting covers with some non-toxic but bitter spray or gabions with an open base, staked down?

Dozens of ant specimens pinned out in the standard position ready to be point-mounted. Each sample number is kept with each batch of pinned specimens to preserve the data integrity.
First #pitfall traps of the year, first #ants of the year. All Myrmicinae and had to brush slug slime off many of them under alcohol to get them clean. Slugs can’t resist chicken paste bait it seems!
All pinned and left to dry over night. Pointing in the morning.

Several ants float in a centimetre of propylene glycol (with a couple of drops of dishwasher fluid) at the bottom of a pitfall trap.

The meat paste bait does seem to attract my nemesis - slugs! (more so than the jam baits). This means that I’ll have to carefully rinse slime off the insect specimens 🤢

Couldn't resist a quick go of #Pitfall on the #AtariXEGS as it's still out. Very similar gameplay to the #Atari2600 version (crocs might be a tad less forgiving), but the extra details do give it the edge looks-wise. Managed to survive the whole 20 mins and beat my 2600 score.
