Appreciation makes gift knitting worthwhile. I don't think I could've chosen better colors for him if I tried!

Four stitches to go. Again.
Nearly finished with the second ribbed cap from a gradient dyed blank, featuring helical knitting beyond the lengths for brims.

rest of the hat. This is the second strand (larger ball), and this is the first one I started with (smaller ball). So, now that I have recorded this and posted it, I can go knit decreases.

I plan to knit four inches so the brim is a solid brown, then continue the ribbing in helical knitting with the opposite end of the second strand. That's the blue end of the yarn on the winder at the back of these photos.

A length of nicely knitted fabric has a certain allure, but eight inches of ribbing is enough for a cap. Nine is just too much. Now to work the crown decreases.

This wasn’t a game of yarn chicken, but 9 yards left of three balls is pretty good.

This Käänteinen cap - a public project I can post while knitting a gift I can’t - is coming along nicely. These are the first 1.5 of 9 inches in k3p2 ribbing. So far the variegated yarn has no color repeats or pooling.

Here I go again. 180 stitches of Island Fibers fingering weight yarn on 2.25 mm DPNs in k3p2 ribbing. Nine inches to go before crown decreases! 😜 All so I have knitting to post that’s not the gift I’m making.

Now, you may have heard the meme that begins, “If someone makes you something out of yarn, they like you” and it continues “If they make it out of black yarn, they love you.”

That’s a whole lot of love.

Views of the little Musselburgh Hat that I knit for my posable plastic skeleton. It has a solid orange middle section that folds into a brim and a colorway at each end that becomes two different crowns.
Little Musselburgh Hat I knit for my posable plastic skeleton. Total unfolded length of the hat seen here is about 4.25 inches (10.8 cm). The middle solid color becomes the folded brim when one end is tucked into the other.
It’s fun that Musselburgh hats are two in one. Obviously I had to knit one for my bony partner in crime. The resulting folded brim is four layers thick, though, which was challenging at this size.

The light is gone for today, but I got one photo. This is the Musselburgh Hat that I knit for my posable skeleton. It (the hat) is roughly 4.25 inches long (10.8 cm) and looks really cute. The middle section becomes the folded brim.

On my mother’s birthday I do things she'd have enjoyed. It was a golden autumn day perfect for interisland ferry knitting. The sky was magnificent, and my Dignity Cap design sample is ready for crown decreases. Happy birthday, Mama.

Close up of knitted 1x1 ribbing in a cheerful coral colorway of Merino DK yarn from Fidalgo Artisan Yarn.

Tubes of yarn that I knit to determine gauge for the next sample of my Dignity Cap. The top tube is a muted orange (marmalade) color of Jody Long's Alba DK yarn. A ball of olive green (Highland) Alba is next to it. The bottom tube is a deep red DK from Normay with a natural white and golden yellow ball nearby.
Swatchy swatchy colors to set gauge for my next #DignityCap. DK from my mother's stash (bottom) is heavier than more recent yarn like Highland and Marmalade colorways of Jody Long's Alba DK. Curious. Because the older yarn is from Norway and made >15 years ago?

Coming in for a landing. Knitting my #DignityCap isn't difficult, but I chose to take the time to write needle-by-needle instructions along the way. Knitters who aren't familiar with helical knitting might appreciate it.

Last afternoon of #PorchKnitting for summer 2025. Finished 3 inches of 1x1 ribbing for the #DignityCap I'm designing.
67° made basking in the sun nice. Birds were birding - geese, corvids, and the mechanical kind taking off from the nearby airport.
