Gespot in het Staelduinse bos. De koperwiek hoort bij de lijsterfamilie en dankt zijn naam aan zijn koperrood gekleurde ‘oksels’. De koperwiek is ook herkenbaar door de witte wenkbrauwstreep op zijn kop. Bovenop is de vogel bruin en op de borst is hij wit met donkere vlekjes. A scene from one of the feeders in my garden. It holds sunflower hearts and has had a lot of interest from the local siskin and redpoll just recently. In this image one siskin is sate on the feeder and another on a twiggy branch close by. A redpoll has been bullied off by them and is exiting the frame in a swooping downward dive with its wings outstretched.

My crabapple tree was laden with fruit this year, was being the operative word as the redwing and blackbirds have now more or less stripped it. This image shows a redwing high in its branches with the prize of an entire crabapple in its beak, which it promptly flew off with to enjoy at its leisure.
