The EU in 2022 responded with #REPowerEU, which was (and is) a comprehensive plan to shift away from Russian fossil imports. A major component of this is hydrogen, being in total 660TWh of H2 via imports and domestic production by 2030.
An ambitious goal, considering solar in 2025 was about 360TWh!
Europe can’t stay hostage to fossil fuel price shocks.
✊accelerate the clean energy transition
✊scale up renewables, grids, flexibility & efficiency
#RepowerEU was a start. We need faster deployment, stronger interconnections.
Europe must back innovation, not fossil fuels!

5) #RepowerEU has helped diversify Europe’s gas supply and reduced demand, but more must be done. Europe needs stronger short-term preparedness and faster deployment of renewables, supported by better cross-border interconnections between Member State.
Europe installed 19.1 GW of new wind power capacity in 2025. The EU‑27 accounted for 15.1 GW of this total. 90% of the wind capacity built in Europe last year was onshore – and 77% of new wind installations in Europe between 2026 and 2030 are expected to be onshore. Germany built the most new wind power capacity in 2025. Türkiye and Sweden followed. Germany, France, and the UK were the only countries to install new capacity both onshore and offshore. Wind energy continues to play a key role in Europe’s power system. In 2025, wind supplied 19% of all electricity consumed in the EU‑27. The share was much higher in several countries, reaching 50% in Denmark, 33% in Lithuania and Ireland, 31% in the UK, and 30% in Sweden.
#Europe now has 304 GW of #Onshorewind and #OffshoreWind capacity in total.
🔹#Germany 🇩🇪 added the most new #WindPower capacity in 2025.
🔹#Türkiye 🇹🇷 and #Sweden 🇸🇪 did well.
🔹Wind farms in the #EU-27 🇪🇺 alone generated 465 TWh of #electricity last year.

Worth remembering that #REPowerEU will eliminate Russian gas in 2027:
❝ MEPs and EU governments struck a landmark agreement… to phase out Russian gas by 30 Sept. 2027…
LNG cargoes of Russian origin will be banned from 1 Jan. 2027, with pipeline imports following on 30 Sept. the same year.❞

Biogas ersetzt fossile Gase, reduziert die Methanemissionen aus Abfällen (bis zu 13%) und produziert Düngemittel. In Dänemark deckt es bereits 45% des Netzgases ab, mit einem Potenzial von 100% bis 2030.
#REPowerEU prognostiziert 35 Mrd. Kubikmeter pro Jahr, was 20% der Erdgaseinfuhren entspricht
We welcome the EU Council’s final approval of the #REPowerEU Regulation — a major step toward ending Russian #gas imports, securing Europe’s #energy independence, and building a cleaner future. A hard-won victory after years of campaigning.

Today, the Council formally adopted the regulation on phasing out Russian imports of both pipeline gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) into the EU.
A key milestone in delivering the #REPowerEU objective of ending the EU’s reliance on Russian energy.

#Europe #EU #REPowerEU #Renewables #SolarEnergy #WindEnergy #HydroPower
Based on data from @ember-energy.org's #Electricity Data Explorer 🔗 ember-energy.org/data/electri...
The initial #REPowerEU strategy was 6,600TWh of hydrogen by 2030. This is double total EU solar output in 2024
The goal is likely to be achieved, but it may be a few years late - the electrolysis manufacturing capacity is built, but the infrastructure takes time
Almost half of CO2 reductions by 2050 are expected to come from technologies that are not yet available.

The Commission are spending big on hydrogen infrastructure, alongside the electricity grid (25% on H2, 75% on grids). The initial target under #REPowerEU was 20mtpa (6,600TWh or about double total solar output in the EU to date) by 2030
This requires infrastructure, so it may be a few years
