There’s lots more to think about, especially as mainnet Ethereum moves to PoS, and then the focus once again goes to the future potential for data availability and execution environments.

The current area where there are no clear winners / lots of activity is in the zk/snark/etc space

If you’re going to have to change how you write smart contract code anyway, there’s likely an opportunity for switching VMs.

And maybe chains.

Other chains likely can and will continue adopting EVM compatibility.

Whether or not they _should_ has to be considered in a chain-of-chains future.

For @Filecoin, a proof of space time chain with a really nice actor system, maybe not.

We’ve been working mostly in the @IPFS and @Filecoin ecosystems lately, and the question about EVM compat came up, so @expede made some comments in the Filecoin Improvement Proposals (FIPs) repo github.com/filecoin-project/FIPs/is...

With broad EVM implementations, It does mean that there are more people to potentially engage in the EIP process.

But do they even have standing in a process designed to make decisions around mainnet Ethereum?

Of course, through the EIP process, the EVM _can_ be improved.

But at best, that’s a few major changes at most twice a year, per hardfork.

Now that EVM-compatible zones are deployed far beyond Mainnet, what does that mean for changes?

“The EVM” is a number of different things, including part of the Ethereum spec and all the way down to bytecode the VM produces.

People usually include the Solidity language. That’s the obvious layer to improve, like #Vyper.

With this news, and @ChainSafeth working on Tendermint EVM for Cosmos, it's clear that the EVM will live forever.

And! Lots of new partners to work on _improving_ it together.

Getting a form of VM versioning done as a standard means backward compatibility is possible #runevm (...)

The #EthereumStack is bigger than mainnet Ethereum. Goerli is a solid independent open source testnet with a plan.

Various chains/groups have incentives to improve / evolve EVM - Monax/Hyperledger, ETC, EEA, Avalanche, Ethermint.

Largest smart contract ecosystem all #RUNEVM

This validates the #EthereumStack being bigger than main-net Ethereum, and the EVM being a core value.
