Disinformation has been repeatedly identified as a systemic global risk in the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report and can be a catalyst or accelerant for other climate, health, economic and geopolitical risks. Disinformation occurs in all communications settings, but technologies such as generative artificial intelligence and social media can amplify its reach and harms. Disinformation is not the same as misinformation.
