Arbutus Marina/Marina strawberry tree with fruits ranging from pale gold to rich vibrant red in color. the fruits do not taste like strawberry for all that they are a similar size and shape. they are not as sweet nor as harsh.

the strawberry tree fruits are turning custardy and delicious all over the bay area right now

Braved the windy weather to feed the birds and noticed my strawberry tree is looking lovely.

Turkey tail mushrooms in shades of cream to dark brown are growing up two sections of a slightly leaning Strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo). The closer section of the tree is not in focus. Instead, the distant mushrooms are what I chose to focus on. The rough bark of the tree is reddish-brown. Green foliage is seen as ground cover beyond the mushroom covered tree. This is a phone photo.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

photograph of a large cluster of hanging red-pink bell-shaped flowers, crowned by large, glossy green leaves. The tree trunk is narrow and mahogany, just dark enough to show off the gentle pinks of the flowers. In the background, green and grey-green foliage blooms exuberantly.

🍓 The Strawberry Tree: More Than Just Brandy—It’s History and Biodiversity! 🌳

Did you know that the strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo), in Portugal, isn’t exclusive to the Algarve mountains, as many believe?

Round orange balls with small red spikes hang from a tree. They are about the size of a large marble. There is something about the spikes that has a white tint, thus it looks like sugar crystals.

This is the fruit from a Strawberry tree. Apparently it is edible, though I don't know what they taste like. They look like they would be sour with a sugar coating.

StrawberryTree, Arbutus unedo, a Mediterranean relative of the west coast Madrone, native to western Europe and the Middle East (from Portugal to Syria) and the national tree of #Italy due to the colors of its leaves, flowers, and fruit. She can again be either an evergreen shrub or tree form (rarely reaching 50 feet, usually half that height).
Her fruits, the arbutus berry, resembles a strawberry in appearance not taste, and are sweet but they are not widely cultivated as they bruise too easily for commercial transportation and take from spring into fall to mature, becoming edible when the next flowers bloom. They are high in vitamins, antioxidants, and omega 3 fatty acids, as well as unique polyphenols.
Mostly used for jam, marmalades
