Collage of photographs taken at the splendid Arts & Crafts gem, Blackwell House in Cumbria. The sizeable grand house was designed by architect Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott in 1900. See post I of II for a bit more info. Couldn't resist posting this collage as a follow-up, to showcase some of the variety of Arts & Crafts fashions on display. Image shows a collage of four pictures, a long horizontal image along the bottom, a larger portrait image on the left and two smaller square images on the right. Top left: a stained glass window with a symmetrical vine design in red, lilac, green and turquoise colours. Right top: the 'White Drawing Room' (see previous post). Right bottom: a glazed tile by William De Morgan in blues and greens of the 'Bedford Park Daisy' pattern. Bottom: a section of wood-carved frieze featuring a repeating vine and grapes design (similar to the stained glass window). This design is seen in white above the fireplace in the previous post. Photograph taken at the Arts & Crafts wonder of Blackwell House overlooking Lake Windermere in Cumbria. The sizeable grand house was designed by architect Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott in 1900. This is the fireplace in the 'White Drawing Room' (my favourite room in the house). Elsewhere in the room are window seats overlooking the ground, lake and hills beyond, where you can sit and read or relax. Image shows a predominantly white painted room with a grey and white marble geometric tiles hearth with pink accents. The fireplace itself has deep blue glazed tiles and nestles within a clever wooden surround with in-built bookshelves and benches, illuminated display cases and mirrors. Above this is an intricately carved repeating frieze (see post I of II) of vines and grapes, also painted white. On the shelves and in the display cases are a selection of books and ceramic bowls. There are subtle moments of up lighting that really lift and highlight the craftsmanship. Second outing for this photograph taken looking down on an art project my kid and I did many years ago aligning with their class topic at school. Yes I was that irritating mum that loved an 'art project' and fancy dress costume day challenge etc. Polystyrene spheres covered in different coloured tissue paper, sweet wrappers and printed with various textures. Each is accurately (I think) representative in colour of planet. Colours range from deep Ribena-purple, blues, greens, creams, fiery reds and oranges, and even a lilac. Photographed against a black worktop from a former house. Eventually they were strung on fishing wire to became a mobile of the planets.
