When I turned to go back down the River Nar, found I'd been followed by a shoal of Graylings gorging on the goodies I'd been dislodging! To end this🧵, here they are, together with some footage of my swoosh down this #Norfolk #chalkstream, fast flowing thanks to restoration. #rivers #teamfish 9/9

The Conchos pupfish is not a monolith! We found strong genetic divergence within Cyprinodon eximius, including the Devils River population in TX. Check out our new paper in Conservation Genetics! #fish #FishSci #TeamFish link.springer.com/article/10.1...

I usually ignore bird posts because #TeamFish, but I love a good Steller's Jay.
I came across a great photo of a Mooneye, Hiodon tergisus, from the St. Croix watershed in Minnesota. Photo by Drew Geving. Minnesota is working to implement new protections for "native rough fishes" such as Mooneye and Bowfin. It's the first US state to do so, finally. 🧪🌍🐟 #TeamFish

A new killifish species is described from the Mitemele River in Equatorial Guinea. 🧪🌍🐟 #TeamFish
A new late Triassic crocodylomorph from what's now SW England and south Wales has been described. The Bristol Channel seems to be a hot spot for such finds. 🧪⚒️ #TeamFish
ngl i'd probably try feeding a tarpon while holding onto the food, it's not like they're gonna clamp onto your arm & hang on like a big ol' flathead catfish would.
As long as there were no pelicans around! Pelicans are *definitely* scarier than tarpon! #TeamFish 😹
This new single from the Ratfish Wranglers from Alaska is now available at all the usual sources. Art by Ray Troll, since he's in the band. 🧪⚒️🐟 #TeamFish
There's always a new loach from somewhere in SE Asia, which is cool. 🐟🌍 #TeamFish

To celebrate adding "Eggs and Larvae of 500 Taiwan Fishes" 《魚大十八變:魚卵及仔稚魚多樣性圖鑑》by Shao et al. to my #TeamFish library, here is the larvae of Coryphaena equiselis 棘鬼頭刀 pompano dolphinfish, drawn after the book's great photo. Another #TaiwanFishes #台灣魚類 for #SundayFishSketch! 🦑🐡🧪

Very excited to score this at #TIBE! "Eggs and Larvae of 500 Taiwan Fishes" by Shao et al.《魚大十八變-魚卵及仔稚魚多樣性圖鑑》邵廣昭 邱詠傑 黃信凱 陳雅芳,國家海洋研究院 2024. A great collection for any #TeamFish enthusiast. And of course, lots of inspiration for upcoming #SundayFishSketch #TaiwanFishes #台灣魚類 #SciArt pieces!! 🦑🐡🧪
The Blackbanded Sunfish, Enneacanthus chaetodon, is the subject of a restoration project in Maryland. The fish is very habitat specific requiring blackwater swamps. Much of this habitat was destroyed in Maryland by the pulp industry. Now, captive breeding may bring it back. 🧪🐟⚒️ #TeamFish

As a measure of how nuts things are in the US, it’s now difficult or impossible to buy red yarn. So many people want to make Resistance hats that demand has outstripped supply. 🧪🐟🌎⚒️ #TeamFish

This is a short story by WSFA in Montgomery, Alabama, covering the press release about the Stippled Studfish, Fundulus bifax, now being considered for protected status under the US Endangered Species Act. I'll be interviewed by the station about this tomorrow morning. 🐟🌍🧪 #TeamFish

A female Stippled Studfish from east Alabama. Photo: Phil Gentry. The Fish and Wildlife Service will hopefully make a final favorable decision in 12 months.
I worked with the Center for Biological Diversity to file a petition with the US Fish & Wildlife Service to have the Stippled Studfish, Fundulus bifax, receive protection under the Endangered Species Act. Today the USFWS announced an initial positive finding on the petition. See Alt. 🧪🌍🐟 #TeamFish
Our paper on the reproductive biology of the Bigeye Chub, Hybopsis amblops, in the Flint River of Alabama is available today. This is a species requiring cool, clean water over sand and gravel, whose range has contracted as much habitat has been degraded. Thanks to SFC Proceedings. 🌍🧪🐟 #TeamFIsh
Is Plymouth Rock in Plymouth, Massachusetts, a good gauge of sea level rise or not? It is if you're utterly ignorant. This was found and posted by the meteorologist Dan Satterfield. 🧪⚒️ #TeamFish
