TW: Mention of suicidality and self-harm
Last week social media channels were full of reminders to talk about mental health. Ours included. But our final "don't forget" is the most important of all. Don’t forget that EVERY day is #TimeToTalkDay

How does talking about what’s going on for someone who self-harms, help them?
Thanks to one of our volunteers for sharing this insight based on his experience of supporting people who self-harm on our Live Chat👇

Time to Talk Day reminds us that conversations can be a lifeline. Speaking openly about mental health helps break stigma, ease isolation, and remind people they are not alone. Sometimes, being heard is the first step toward healing. 💬🧠 #TimeToTalkDay #MentalHealthAwareness #EndTheStigma
It starts with a question: “Are you okay?”
This Time to Talk Day, let’s open up, listen more, and support one another—because mental health matters every day. 💙

Two people walk together through a modern urban area, one carrying a basket of flowers and using a prosthetic arm. They appear engaged in conversation. A purple overlay sits across the image with text promoting open dialogue about disability and the Purple Tuesday campaign.
It’s Time to Talk Day. Conversations about disability, health, and mental wellbeing don’t need perfect words; they need respect, curiosity, and listening.
How can you make it easier for people to talk?

Many #UnpaidCarers play a vital role in their families, often without any support or recognition.
That was true for Alagu. At 40, she cares for her father-in-law, who has lived with mental illness for 20 years, while also managing her household & her children’s education.
On Time To Talk Day, we’re reminded how important connection is.
Living with or caring for someone with ALS can take a toll on mental health—and talking about it matters.
A simple conversation can be powerful. 💙 💙

You are allowed to break. Everything does. The stars grow tired an fall. The waves crash against rocks and shores. Trees fall for both storms and the wind, leaving behind seeds and saplings so a version of them can grow again. Stormclouds part for the rain and then part again for the sun to come through. Night must break for day and the day for the night. The world is made of broken things pieces themselves back together - this is what gives us the most resilient stories. So why do you think that you were built any differently than the night and the stormclouds? You know how to put yourself back together again too, just as well as they do. Take heart. You have managed to rebuild yourself a thousand times over from every bad day. That is no small thing.

It's time to speak about your personal experiences. “As heroic as they are, healthcare workers are also human and therefore experience the same challenges in life as everyone else. As a health and care professional, speaking about your personal experiences of mental ill health with your colleagues can help others to not feel shameful about their suffering, seek help, and overcome their difficulties so that they can get back to doing the job they love: caring for the health of our nation. It's a win for everyone.” Dr Lena Huins, Consultant Psychiatrist, Practitioner Health
Speaking about your experiences of mental ill health can help others to overcome feelings of shame and access the support they need. This #TimeToTalkDay, help us to start the conversation around mental health by sharing your story in the comments.
On #TimeToTalkDay, we’re proud to support open conversations about mental health. Will Vaulks, who recently gave a talk at the IDRM, and Prof Willem Kuyken remind us that sharing experiences can help reduce stigma around mental health challenges.

Talking about how we’re feeling, whether with a friend, a family member, or a professional, can be an important first step. You don’t need to have all the words, and you don’t need to be in crisis to reach out.
