Building on the 2023 recommendations of the APS Committees Task Force, the APS Council called for the formation of a new Inclusive Committee Structure Working Group (ICS-WG) in October 2025 to assess and recommend ways to evolve APS's current committee structure to support members from across the full spectrum of groups historically marginalized or underrepresented in physics. We are hosting virtual open focus groups to ensure the ICS-WG understands the needs of the entire community. These are open to everyone. In particular, we would like to meet with those who have not felt they have representation in the current APS structures, such as LGBTQ+ physicists and physicists with disabilities (physical and neurodivergent/ mental health).
Why join? • Define the Purpose: Share your perspective on the needs of underrepresented groups in physics and the true value and role of inclusion-related committees at APS. • Evaluate Support: Help us understand if current APS policies and structures actually enable affinity groups to succeed or if they create barriers. • Center Sidelined Voices: Ensure that upcoming organizational changes are informed by lived experiences and reflect the intersectional needs of individuals that have historically been sidelined.

Quick question for the #TransInSTEM community. I'm talking to a colleague about organizing a network specifically to connect trans folks working in STEM (grad students, postdocs, faculty, and other professional researchers in the public & private sector) for solidarity and mutual support.
Yesterday was my 1 year anniversary of my top surgery!
This whole year I've been a happier, healthier, more "me" me because of it!
I had fought in 3 states, over 8 years to make it happen. I am still elated every day when I wake up from the happiness it brings :).

Screenshot: The Trump administration also suspended $175 million in federal funding to the University of Pennsylvania last month, according to a statement from Penn President Larry Jameson. This suspension was apparently motivated by the institution's policies on transgender athletes and the participation of a transgender athlete on the women's swimming team in 2022. The university contends it followed National Collegiate Athletic Association and Title IX sex-based discrimination rules as they were written at the time.
I never expected to see science cuts due to past trans inclusion in other parts of a university.
How quickly will science institutions abandon trans folks?
So very fast, just like they're already tripping over themselves to sacrifice so many others.
