It was May 1, and there's a blurred background of new green grass and brown and green trees. It was also the start of nesting season, so the swallows don't want you anywhere near their nest boxes. I've had my head buzzed by them many times as I was checking nest boxes for Mass Audubon Broadmoor in Natick, Massachusetts.
