The design on the whole resembles a butterfly — the left and right pieces are symmetrical wings composed of curved lines that branch and intersect to form a winglike shape. The center piece is a vertical line with two pairs of thorns jutting out near the top, which resembles the body of a butterfly but could also be interpreted as something akin to a wand.
